Ok, you open a tin of salmon, right? Weather its a small tin or a tall tin, the salmon fills it.

Yes?

Now, a salmon is thin at one end and thin at the other end.

So why does the salmon fill the tin? What happens to the thin bits? Do they breed can-shaped salmon in secret fish farms somewhere?

As for tinned crab... dont start me off on that one!

The salmon is bigger than the can, so they chop the thin bits of and feed it to their cats.
