I appreciate that a lot of people in Sheffield won’t know the name Wicker Camp and even if they do they may not follow the sport of Muay Thai with much interest but for those of you in the know you will appreciate the news below.

Two Wicker Camp fighters will be taking their skills abroad over the next fortnight for perhaps the hardest fights of their careers.

Imran Kahn will be fighting none other than Anuwat Kaewsamrit in Paris tonight. The fight is matched at 63.5kgs. I’m not sure exactly sure of the venue of the fight although as soon as more details are available I will post them.
I know both fighters weighed in fine yesterday evening.
This is a great opportunity for Imran and he is under no illusion that this will be a very hard fight but he’s trained hard and 100% into his preparation.

On Sunday 22nd June Thomas McCormick will fight at Rajadamnern Stadium.
I don’t have a name for Thomas’ opponent although the fight has been matched at 63.5kgs.
Thomas will be flying to Bangkok tomorrow to complete his last week of training at Jitti Gym – again another hard fight but a valuable step in developing his fight career.

As soon as I get the results from Imran’s fight I will post them on the forum. I’ll do the same as soon as Thomas has fought.

AMAZING!!!
Imran Khan is my hero!!!
Hes fighting the one and only Anuwat?
Anuwat possesses punching power that would put a lot of PRO Boxers to shame!
Amazing!
If he wins that would put him in good stead to fight Liam Harrison!
Imran Khan is the best thaiboxer in the country at 63.5kg (in my opinion)
Am i correct?

After seeing the way Imran destroyed Cadden, I don`t think he needs to be in any better "stead" to fight Harrison !;)

After a very hard fougth fight Imran unfortunately lost the fight on points.
Spoke to Dan Hudson last night who was cornering Imran. He said it was a really good fight although Imran was forced on to the back foot from the 2nd round which I suppose isn't surprising given Anuwats fighting style.
Imran went down twice (not sure what rounds)although more from tiredness than anything landing. From what Daniel said Imran landed more clean shots than Anuwat and Imran came away pretty un-scathed, Imran is a very clever fighter who is really good at using his range to both attack and avaid.
All in all I'm lead to believe it was a really good fight for Imran, just the type fo fight he needs to progress. Certainly a step in the right direction for Imran who now wants to concentrate on fighting as many big names in Muay Thai as possible and I'm sure anyone that has seen Imran fight will appreciate that this is exactly what a fighter of his calibre deserves.
Well done Haji imran, we're all very proud of you.

Very well done Imran, THE example of a professional fighter.
Professional sport seems to focus on people like Rooney and Ronaldo, MONEY, MONEY, ME,ME,ME and here is Imran, training till he bleeds, humble, teaching the kids 2-3 times a week and has a job away from Muay Thai.
If only Thai Boxing had a higher profile.

Hi SAB15

Private tution is still available at Wicker Camp. Lessons are charged by the hour at £28.00. This price is for 1 person or up to 4 (which would work aout at £7 each).
I believe there are a couple of other offers regarding the price, think full detaisl are on the website.
Most instructors take private lessons, suggest you either decide who you want one with then contact them direct (possibly through the gym) or if you want to ghave a lesson at a specific time on a specific day you might need to see who is available.

Hope this helps.

I heard at the last minute in Imran fight they changed the rules by saying they couldn't use their arms/elbows - a style that Imran is not so experienced in.

Don't know how true this is? Maybe someone on here could shed some light on this

Yes the fight was ruled to be fought without the use of elbows (not arms - that would be very strange ;)) although I think this arrangement had been more or less inplace for a good few weeks prior to the actually fight.
One of Imrans greatest weapons is the elbow and partaking in a fight with a Thai legend without it did seem a little strange although it's not un-common for bouts held in France to exclude the use fo elbows - think this was more a ruling of the French equivalent to the sports council rather than either corner asking for those rules.

Thanks for clearing that up for us. Also is it true that Imran stepped forward to contest in the fight because the original fighter backed out for what ever reason at the last minute

To contest the fight?
Imran was offered the fight about 4 weeks before the fight date, not sure if anyone else dropped out - if they did then it's their loss. Imran had a hard fight but then again he was fighting a Legend, although Imran held his own throughout - hopefully this will open a few doors for Imran and he may well start getting the recognition he deserves.

I had a message yesterday letting me know that Thomas McCormick is being worked like a dog out in Bangkok, 4 more days and I'm sure it will pay off.

Just received a text from Thailand letting me know that Thomas McCormick beat Yodmonkon on points at Rajadamnern today.

Sounds as though Thomas put in probably the best performance of his fighting career to take the fight. there were over 30 Wicker Camp students at the stadium cheering him on, can't say better than that really.

Well done round eye.

I was ringside at rajadamnoen watching Thomas fight, it was really good - he totally outclassed his opponent, by the end of the fight it wasn't just the Wicker Camp students cheering him on, most of the Thai audience were too. It was my first time in Thailand, what a fantastic trip - brilliant (although painful and exhausting) training at Sidyodtong Camp, and a Wicker Camp victory right in the heart of Muay Thai.
