View Full Version : Jessop Wing Maternity Emergency - Disappointed
alankeoy 11-06-2008, 14:45 My wife about 6 pm out of sudden complain to me she has terrible bloating in her stomach, after that she had severve pain at lower left check (near stomach) pain.
The pain get worse when she breath and movement. with worried i call the jessop wing hospital, give them details and she said will call back in 5-1o mins but waititing for more than 30 mins there was no response. tried to call back but was engaged.
feeling nervous, i drove all the way to jessop and was told to go to room 1. there were already 4 pregnant woman waiting to be seen, one of them was crying badly. much to suprise there was only 2 person working and seem to be walking here and there.
we waited for an hour, was check her blood pressure, and waited for another one hour,
midwive came in and i told her bout my wive condition and she was scolding me why i didnt give her paracetamol. i was so shock because if i dont know what happen i should not simply give medication to my pregnant wife. that is why i brought her to emergency.
then waiting another 30 mins, a doc came, check the stomach, said would do scan.
then waited anoteh 30 mins, he cam back and there is no need to scan, go back and eat paracatamol, if pain persists go to gp tomorrow.
so in conclusion, waited for almost 4 hours cam back abour 2 am. and nothing has been done, was wondering if it worth going there the first place.
anyone expereicen this pain? the pain is sitll there but not that pain compare to last nite.
thanks.
she is in her 24th weeks now
i am not against the hospital just a bad experience.
I have been having a really sharp pain in my chest on my left side under the edge of my rib cage, it is not constant but if I sneeze or cough or breath deeply it really hurts kind of like a sharp stitch pain that makes you double up it hurts that much.
I called my doctors who got me in straight away and gave me an ECG and blood pressure check and had a feel around. They said there was nothing of concern and didnt know what the pain was. It isnt indegestion of heart burn as it is too far to the left. I was told to take paraceamol if the pain got severe and if it didnt go away to go back to the docs. This was 3 weeks ago.
I still keep having the pain and sometimes it wakes me in the night when it is bad. I went back to the docs who checked my breathing, calf of my legs and my chest, apparently the big worry but is extrememyl rare is blood clots that form inthe lower legs and then break off and get trapped in lungs causing pain - hence why the GP gave me an ECG before. He said if this was the case the pain would be in different palces around my chest not always in the same place and I would have shortness of breath.
Again he said he wasnt sure what it was but thinks it is maybe chest muscle cramp or my diaphragm resting uncomfortably due to things moving upwards internally due to the expansion of the baby. It eased my mind a bit but I just have to put up with the pain.
I am 23 weeks pregnant.
I hope this helps and that it is nothing serious for your wife.
Oh just to add when I first started with the pain I was going to the osteopath for my back. The osteopath said that during pregnany you can get pain quite far left in your chest, this is the top bend of your large inestine that has been pushed upwards because of the growing baby, she said if I had pain there to try massaging the area and stretching to try and move the gas along a bit.
Quite scary how things must be moved around in side you, when my stomach grumbles it is now at my side and not at the bottom of my belly!
alankeoy 11-06-2008, 19:02 hi..sueh thanks for the explaniation. does it mean it acutaly cause by the pregnancy ?
when u said doctor , do u mean local gp or the jesspo doctor ?
i call midwive and she said tehr is nothing she could do and ask her to see gp.
she has exactly the same like you.....is there a number i could contact you to ask further if you are ok ?
thanks
Hello,
I went to my local GP, when I told them I was having chest pains and I was pregnant they fitted me in straight away. I am on the outskirts of sheffield and actually come under Rotherham hospital.
The doctor reckons it is caused my the pregnancy they fact theat your internal organs basically have to move to accomodate the growing baby. I have actially been having these pains for weeks, mine coe and go arent constant but I do have them a few times a day.
I would make an appointment to see local GP and tell them that your wife is prenant and having chest pains. Do the pains move around are is it always the same place?
The doctor wasnt concerned and felt the babys heart beat.
He said i would get aches and pains and that it is just normal but if pains move around my chest and not just in one place and have shortness of breath i should go back to doctors. I had worked myself up in to a stess, I had woken up a few times with the pains and then not slept worrying about it which gave me a migraine. Seeing the doctor put my mind at rest that there was nothing wrong and no risk to the baby. I have been more relaxed since which can only be better for the baby. Being stressed and worried can cause problems in pregnancy too so best to get it checked out.
You should keep on at the doctors though if you do really think something is wrong.
alankeoy 11-06-2008, 21:09 hil...she tells me its at the same place, breath, cough, sneeze or strong movovemnt will cause the pain.
will the pain last till labour ? the baby still kick and moves as usual.
thanks
They said to me there is no problems with the baby is is growing pains, and adjusting to the baby. I hope it doesnt last till labour as it is doing my head in. Had a rubbish night sleep because of it, just sneezed twice and it really hurt. To be honest the doctor didnt say how long it would last he just said that was what it thought it was and that it was nothing serious.
If it keeps on I might try Yoga to see if it stretches and moves things to stop them hurting as much.
Sue
alankeoy 12-06-2008, 09:06 thanks Sue, please keep me up to date of your condition. i plan to take her to see GP tomororw but i think there is nothing much they can do if her condition is similar to yours. is anyone also facing similar problems ? i think your due date is also mid of sept ?
Will do
My due date is 4th October.
Michelle Bar 13-06-2008, 19:35 I had some sharp pains, enough to make me keel over, during my first pregnancy. I phoned my Community Midwife and she told me, in a very unfriendly manner, that you get all kinds of aches and pain when your pregnant. Not sure if that helps but I went on to have a healthy baby at term.
I would strongly recommend you write a letter of complaint about the treatment you received when you went to the Jessop Wing. You were understandably worried about your wife and the midwife could have shown a little more empathy. The amount of time you had to wait is ridiculous and if there had been something wrong with your wife or baby it doesn't bear thinking about.
Michelle Bar 13-06-2008, 19:38 Also forgot to add that Osteopathy can help with the aches and pains you get during pregnancy - for further details see: http://www.theosteopathicpractice.com/Mumstobe-22.asp
alankeoy 14-06-2008, 07:42 thanks will look into it
