Hiya everyone,

Scarlett has to have some blood tests tomorrow at the childrens to check for allergies and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this will entail?

Will they take it from a vein in her wee arm (she's 12 weeks) or will the finger/heel prick as Zebra has suggested?

Thanks everyone, I'm just a bit worried about it. Poor little mite is so small and I don't want her to hurt any more than nessesary.

Even with my older children it was only a fingerprick they do squeeze the finger a fair bit to get enough blood though.

aww thats not so bad, She's due her injections tomorrow as well and didn't want to put her through too much of an ordeal. If it's only the finger prick I might not put off the injections till next week.

Thanks Boosmum x

They'll put cream on the back of her hand and take blood from there. Get them to double check it IS numb before they start though. DS1 had to have it taken and screamed the place down (5 weeks) cos they didn't wait long enough

How did she get on Annie? I hope it was just a fingerprick as I have never heard of it being done by the back of the hand for allergies and I have 3 boys who are all allergic to numerous things and have to be retested regularly

Well......

They didn't take any blood, he said the milk protein wont show up as she's not had any cows milk for 6 weeks. He had me list all her symptoms (she doesn't have any now as she changed to soy milk 6 weeks ago) and as she changed nearly over night on the soy milk he said it's obvious she's allergic to it (as am I) and he said I shouldn't have put her on soy milk but was ok when I nearly blew my top over waiting 8 weeks with a poorly baby.

He said he doesn't want her on soy milk as she's likely to develop an allergy to that also so he has put her on hypoallergenic milk and given her a calcium supplement. As the hypoallergenic stuff is so high in calories for her weight/age she's only to have 4oz of milk 6 times per day - on the other formula she was on 7-8oz 6 times per day so I hope she doesn't mind the decreased volume and is satisfied with what she's getting. He did say if she needs more to give her it though.

He's ref'd her to the dietitian in 3 months time when she's ready to be weaned to discuss everything that needs to be left out of her diet and then to see him in 4 months. He said she's to have a completely dairy free diet until she's at least 12 months then they will re-introduce dairy and see how she is.

All in all very positive and the Dr was sooo nice that Scarlett couldn't stop fluttering those long eyelashes and was pulling her dress up to flash her knickers!, she's a hussy just like her mum lol

Glad it went well. It does drive you crazy that with waiting times of up to 8 weeks they'd expect you to allow your child to continue on something that was blatantly making them ill just to make their lives easier.

Really glad it went so well but I have never heard of being allergic to soya milk, surely thats the whole point of it.

seemingly it's incredibly common to be allergic to soy if your allergic to cows milk, the research on the internet supports this (I didn't realise till today either) she's just had her last soy milk bottle so fingers crossed the during the night feed of the new stuff goes well. It looks and feels really watery, she'll prob spit it back at me or demand at least 4 more ounces as 4 ounces isn't filling for her.

I'll let you know at Jelly's tomorrow how it went. I'm off to bed now as she's just been put into her cot. Night night xxx
