I attended Notre Dame High School in the 1950s. Some of my classmates were : Dianne Fisher, Angela Bailey and Andrea Wright.
Can anyone remember the name of the Art teacher at this time? Was it Mrs Caley? I think the English teacher was Mrs Linstead?

I also attended Notre Dame from 1954 to 1959 - in the same class as Dianne, Angela and Andrea.
Somewhere, in the deep, dark recesses of our attic, I have an exercise book the cover of which was signed by, more or less, everyone in Form 5 in 1959.

Well STUNMON, it appears that you and I are the only two pupils from the 1950's that use this Forum......
It really doesn't seem THAT long since I left school.

Thanks to you both!! Yes of course it was Mrs Hickey. Remember her as dark hair and pretty. Do you remember the rather large Mrs Chappelle?

They didn't have BOYS there in the 50s, did they? I was there from approx 59 to 63, no such thing as boys according to Sister Monica ... well not unless they went to DeLaSalle and then they were just about OK! :D

I remember Miss Jowett who took Music, she had a terrible temper and threw boardrubbers and chalk while teaching.

The only boys there when I was there, were in the prep school and seemed to be there until they were about 6-7, the girl preps stayed on as long as their parents wanted them to, or were prepared to pay for their tuition
The only boys we ever saw were on the bus going to King Edwards.
Catholic boys of scholarship age went to De La Salle

No there were no boys at Notre Dame in the 50s. We did all we could to get access to the boys at De La Salle College. The library at Notre Dame had copies of Green and Gold - the De La Salle magaazine and we would gaze with longing at the photos of football and cricket teams!

My apoligies, it was De La Salle where my mates went. Both Hillsboro' lads. Not being RC, I'm not up with the schools.

I think Miss Molloy took history and her friend Miss Greenwood took goegraphy or was it french.? They were young teachers at the time. Miss Molloy was quite tall. There was a Miss Feeley who took games.
Miss Jowett seemed ageless and I think spent most of her working life there and during my time resenting it.

I thought Miss Feeley took Latin? Wasn't there a Miss Rogers who took us for Games and PE? Very pretty, with curly blonde hair? Mrs Barefoot! "Be quiet girls, please! I'm teaching ovens" hehehe.

Oh my goodness, are you Lynne Clarke? I'm Dympna Danaher, and my best friend at the time was Marta Anginotti. If you are Lynne Clarke, you used to hang out with Catherine Grainger (or Clancy Grainsweet as we sometimes called call her.) The two of you were from Dronfield with Moira Hempstock, and you were crazy about the Everyly Bros.
I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada now. I lost my copy of that big photo taken in October 1959 (we were in Form II.) I'd LOVE to see that pic again. I'd also love to hear from you. How do I leave my email addy on this forum?

Stunmom, Hector, and Gladys Clark, I was at Notre Dame from Sep. 1958-July 1963. I was always in the Arts (except for the 2nd and 3 yr when 2 Art was changed to Form 2). Sr. Mary was the Head of Cavvy, and Sr. Monica was the Head of Oakbrook. In the past year, I've been in touch with Stella Price who lives near me in Vancouver. We've had some fun meetings, and we also met up with Pamela McSporren when Pamela was visiting from the UK.

I left Oakbrook in 1959 so older than you! I wonder what happened to Andrea Wright (Moscar Gables), Angela Bailey and Dianne Fisher?

 some of us who were in the Fifth in 1963 have been meeting up for coffee and cakes several times a year for the last few years. We made contact, also with a few ex-pats via Friends Reunited. Anyone still in Sheff or nearby is more than welcome to come along and say hello, pm me for details. I don't like posting too much personal information on an open forum, tbh.

A form photo for 1959 is posted on the FR/ND page and there's also a pic that was taken of us the other year when we had a tour around Oakbrook.

My sister went to Notre Dame in the late 30's/early forties and was evacuated with the school to Derwent House. She hated it that much she walked all the way home to Upperthorpe where we lived one night.
