View Full Version : The Royal wedding - Prince Charles & Camilla valentine 04-04-2005, 14:24 Just heard that Chas and Camilla have postpones their wedding until saturday as a mark as of respect to the pope nick2 04-04-2005, 14:29 and not because they don't want to share the tv coverage valentine 04-04-2005, 14:30 I never thought of that JonJParr 04-04-2005, 14:35 Originally posted by nick2 and not because they don't want to share the tv coverage Honestly Nick - you're so cynical!! :) Prince Charles is attending the funeral in Rome though. Lea1979 04-04-2005, 14:40 is anyone actually gonna watch the wedding ? does anyone actually really care ? JonJParr 04-04-2005, 14:43 I certainly won't be! Got better things to do with my time. But then I'm not known for being much of a royalist.... GazB 04-04-2005, 14:43 If The Queen pops her cloggs, who takes her place? If it's one of the spoilt little toffs I won't be happy!! Then again, the whole Royal Family are spoilt little toffs! komal 04-04-2005, 14:46 I detest the royal family, once on some american chat site someone trying to be mean who knew i was from england said something like oh well i hope the queen dies...I was like yeah good for you i dont care JonJParr 04-04-2005, 14:49 The royal family really went down in my estimation when the Queen Mother died and her whole estate was deemed not liable to inheritance tax! My family has paid so much inheritance tax over the years it's untrue and they get away with not paying any!! WHY??? Such a double standard. Miss 04-04-2005, 14:51 Originally posted by valentine Just heard that Chas and Camilla have postpones their wedding until saturday as a mark as of respect to the pope Awww... I'm not a royalist, but of them all I like Chas alot... I always thought he was manipulated to look like the bad guy in the whole Diana thing. I think its nice that he's finally getting to marry the woman of his dreams... nick2 04-04-2005, 14:52 Originally posted by JonJParr Honestly Nick - you're so cynical!! :) I can't help it. igm1 04-04-2005, 14:53 Bugger I thought that as my driving test was at the same time as the Royal Wedding no one would be on the road. Now it's been moved.... damn slimsid2000 04-04-2005, 14:58 Why wasn't the Pope's funeral arranged for a different day? After all, the Royal Wedding has been known about for weeks. valentine 04-04-2005, 15:00 The pope has to be buried between 4 & 6 days after death and because of all the people wanting to see him laying in state it will give them plenty of time JonJParr 04-04-2005, 15:00 Originally posted by slimsid2000 Why wasn't the Pope's funeral arranged for a different day? Probably because they didn't give a monkeys about the royal wedding :P Also they wanted to compete for viewing figures ;) slimsid2000 04-04-2005, 15:03 Why not combine the two - have a joint funeral/wedding in Rome to keep everyone happy.:hihi: :hihi: Maybe Charles should be the next Pope - it's about time the Protestants got a look in.:heyhey: igm1 04-04-2005, 15:05 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Camila a catholic?? AJ sheffield 04-04-2005, 15:16 I care little for Prince Charles and Camilla..and just as little for the pope. Edit: oooo that sounded bad....What I really meant is I care little for the popes funeral. extaxman 04-04-2005, 19:26 Far more important question! Does this mean that Ken & Deirdre's wedding on Coronation St will be postponed too? Zebra 04-04-2005, 21:35 I heard on the news that it's postponed because a lot of the key guests are expected at the funeral. The whole thing is a farce and I truly resent this legal situation of that dreadful horsefaced woman becoming queen but a male partner (ie Prince Phillip or Prince Albert) are only a consort. Another stupid, archaic, sexist law which should be revoked before that bint gets a chance. Difficult to tell I don't like her huh? Laura2005 04-04-2005, 21:39 im not bothered about the royal wedding but i think it is a nice gesture and mark of respect for the late pope. robS35 04-04-2005, 21:53 Originally posted by Laura2005 im not bothered about the royal wedding but i think it is a nice gesture and mark of respect for the late pope. I have very little time for the whole royal family just a bunch of un-elected rulers in my book. Anyway isnt she a German & he's a Greek, the Queen & Prince Philip i mean. I would much prefer a republic, even if that did mean us having a President Blair. Maybe it is out of respect, but if they did go ahead with it who would turn up, as my guess would be all the V.I.P's would be in Rome on Friday. Laura2005 04-04-2005, 21:53 lol yup probably Dj_Shadowman 04-04-2005, 23:04 Personally, I thought marrying an animal was only legal in the U.S.A...... slimsid2000 05-04-2005, 13:53 They can't have it on Saturday either because it would clash with the Grand National. Surley most people will want to watch a thoroughbred racehorse achieving its life's ambition and finally making it into the royal enclosure where it will get its oats. I wish them a long and happy life together... I think he deserves some pleasure after the life he's led, poor devil - autocratic father, rigid mother, dippy wife ... we can only hope he's chosen wisely this time round :) JoeP 09-04-2005, 20:08 For what it's worth I have to say that the lives of at least three people would have been happier had they got their act together 30 years ago and married back then. Prince Charles has had a very priveleged life, and with that comes the responsibility of position. The bottom line is that once it was obvious 20 odd years ago that Camilla was married and that he was marrying a young and relatively naive woman he and Camilla should just have acknowledged that it was over, got on with their own lives and, in Charles's case, worked harder on his marriage. BTW, do they have central heating in the Tower of London? And a wireless Internet connection? :) Joe saxon51 09-04-2005, 20:11 Originally posted by rubydazzler I think he deserves some pleasure after the life he's led, poor devil - autocratic father, rigid mother, dippy wife ... we can only hope he's chosen wisely this time round :) Or he could have done what most kids do when they are old enough to leave home, and think for themselves. Nothing stopped him saying, "Sod this for a lark, I'm off." He either wants to be King, or he doesn't. Taking the rough with the smooth is part of everybody's life....even our 'voluntary' royals. And thank God for Diana. Some English blood in the line of descent at last. The kids look normal as well....which makes a pleasant change at Buck House. Joe BoroughGal 09-04-2005, 21:01 I like the monachy, enjoy the pomp, ceromony and history that they bring to the country, and think that Camilla is a far more suitable queen than Diana ever would have made. Although, at this point, there's no suggestion that she's ever going to be queen... And I think that her "looks" match those of the man she's married - not that her looks are relevant either. They obviously love each other so I say let them get on with it. cgksheff 09-04-2005, 21:11 I'm not religous, but ........ it sounded nice to hear the 'Lords Prayer' said in the way that I was taught it.:) Lickszz 09-04-2005, 22:14 Originally posted by Abdul Hmmmmnnn...you and I are going over old ground here. "Diane = Trollope Camilla = A credit to all decent ladies" Merely an accurate description Abdul. Diana, in one of the earliest photo's I saw of her was showing a bit of leg through a see through dress. They were never going to be a match. Did she become far too bitter for a 'Lady'? Remember the incriminating tapes she was storing to exact her 'revenge'? Not a lady IMHO. She was 'tomming' (hawking) it around a bit too! :D evildrneil 09-04-2005, 22:26 To be honest I'm not sure you could call any of them a great upstanding moral paragon with behaviour beyond reproach. I found the whole saint dianna thing and demonising of Chuck nauseating - they both appeared to be playing away from home with other married people - including (apparently) Camilla. But then again for all their cash and privilage they are only human! But then again for all their cash and privilage they are only human! Yep, and Charles is probably the most sensitive and least womanising heir in history. rainbow2411 09-04-2005, 23:24 It is a matter of record that Charles & Diana's respective Grandmothers instigated the match between them knowing full well that Charles and Camilla were having an affair, Camilla also encourage the match thinking that Diana would be compliant. Diana was a very young and naive girl who was lied to and manipulated by all around her. They all assumed that she would be the dutiful wife, provide the heir and the spare and accept her husbands mistress as was the custom of this family. Diana dragged them kicking and screaming into the 20th century and fought back in the only way she could. She was no angel but she was a victim of this hideously outdated and out of touch family. Having said all that it was obvious today that this pair do love each other and no one leads a completely blameless life so lets hope that they can make each other happy, they would be me very happy if the Queen would abdicate and take her whole disfunctional family off to live out their lives as private citizens of this country. smedley 10-04-2005, 08:13 I'm neither here or there on the royal family, but I thought it was nice to see two people who have obviously cared about each other for ages tying the knot. ...
