Considering Ashley is an R.C should he really be throwing a villiage fete' seeing as how his big boss man has just been buried..?

I wouldn't have thought Emmerdale was your thing Bob! ;) I guess it's just the filming in advance that caused it, but having said that, Ken and Deirdre's wedding was re-shot to allow for jokes about Charles and Camilla's wedding!

Not my thing @ all mate, I got a 30 minute custodial sentence...I sit here on the pc and the missus chills with all the soaps.

They could have cancelled it though and made us all happy...

I saw him Leeds centre last week. He was in a cafe, and nobody seemed to recognise him.

Ashley isn't RC - if he was he wouldn't be allowed to have a girlfriend!

Yeah, and he's a vicar, not a priest.

So all's fair....!

Ooooh, I dunno. You might be right, I'm not an expert. But I thought vicars were C of E?? Do Bishops have to be Catholic?

The Church of England has Bishops. We have a Bishop of Sheffield.

Don't R.C have Cardinals? although High Church has Bishop, a Priest is called Father .... and a Vicar is just Mr.. er i think .. what a confusing mixed up post.
I quite fancy Ashley actually.. i might start going to his church.

Some C of E ministers, particularly "high-church" anglicans will take the title "father".

The character Ashley is C of E:- remember he was married, and had a child by Berniece, and is suposed to be marrying "she of the annoying, squeaky voice" (is it Louise?)

Roman Catholic priests are not permitted to marry. They *were* permitted to do so, prior to the 12th century, but the church altered the rules, in order that the priest's property and estates did not pass to any family on their death, but to the church.

Although, to qualify that above comment:- when the C of E had the split, over the ordination of women priests, some C of E ministers, who were married, went over to the RC's, .
As they were

a; already ordained, and,

b: already married, they were permitted to be married and in Holy orders in the RC church.

leddi:-

Bishops are found in most christian denominations, Protestant and Catholic. It just denotes a position of seniority (higher than priest, lower than Archbishop. *

Sheffield houses the seats of two bishops, one at the Anglican cathedral, the bishop of Sheffield, then the Catholic Cathedral has their bishop, who is the bishop of the Diocese of Hallam, which IIRC covers a broadly similar geographic area to the Anglican Diocese of Sheffield

"father" is an "honorific" title, (honorary form of address).

Some ministers are called a "Parson", some, "Rector", some "Pastor", and others "Vicar". I think it might be personal preference...?

(*I know that the equivalent of vicar in the Mormon church are termed "bishop" how confusing is that?)

PT edit to add:- I think that the R-C position of Cardinal is the equivalent of the Anglican archbishop!
