HUMUS is a partnership of the Sheffield Teaching and Childrens Hospital Trusts, the University of Sheffield, the Museums Trust, the City Council and the Passenger Transport Executive. They are working together to solve access and parking problems in their area.
HOW?
On October 13th, a Residents Parking scheme will begin in the Groves area of Broomhall. The scheme is designed to make it easier for local residents to park, and create a turnover of parking spaces near the Ecclesall Road shops. At the same time, new traffic calming works, with 20 mph speed limits will increase pedestrian safety.
The HUMUS Partners have appointed a Travel Plan Coordinator. Their role is to build upon the existing work of the University and develop better travel options and initiatives for all Partners. This will include the provision of improved public transport services and facilities for cyclists and pedestrians. There will be a positive encouragement of alternatives to the car.
A Park and Ride scheme may be possible in the near future that will serve the area directly from Abbeydale Road and Owlerton. In addition, improvements to the existing bus services are being discussed
The Partners recognise they also have a duty to provide sufficient car parking spaces for the visitors, patients, students and staff. Failure to do so would mean increased pressures on local on-street parking. The Partners are looking at the future needs for car parking, and will be working together with all relevant bodies.
