There used to be a fantastic bakery/sandwich shop on the site where ha ha bar now stands, had the best flapjack in the world, I seem to recall there was a shared entrance with a restaurant, open at different times? It was very near the old 'wedding cake' registry office. What happened, did they relocate and if so, where?

It was called "Vernons", and used to do HUGE sandwiches on proper French bread. I can't remember the name of the Italian restaurant, but somewhere on here I think there's another thread about it.

No they shut down in 2002ish they're builing flats on what was their factory, i know barry and the lads and they're decent people nice to know.shame not may local bakers left...

The restaurant in the basement had a South American style to it - spicier than "just" Italian

Yes, you're right actually, and I think Blue Monday's right about being called Latino as well.
