I'll be moving into a house this weekend and want to get set up with a broadband provider. I've never had a broadband provider before and really don't know where to start or what to do.

I've bought a wireless router and a couple of pci cards so I can have a wireless network and have a vague understanding of how to set that lot up so am not too worried yet about that (watch this space).

I just need suggestions as to which ISP to go with, which offers the best deal and the best speed for the best price. Are they all much of a muchness or are there a couple of beauties that stand out from the crowd?

I also understand that some ISPs offer email and spam/virus protection too. I thought email would have come as standard? How well do these protection facilities work?

Please give me answers in Janet and John language so I don't get baffled. Cheers.

Just spotted the thread near to this one about recommending an ISP which I'm reading through, but would welcome any other suggestions.

If you need janet and john stuff I'll recommend F9 because their help desk is open 24hrs and is only a local rate number  Their helpline people can usually explain in words of one syllable too.

You can have as many e-mail addresses you like (no extra charge), and I've never been spammed (probably because you choose your own domain name)

Have a look here (http://www.adslguide.org.uk/)

That should give you a pretty good idea where to start..
