I was about to purchase a budget laptop and was wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers. I don't really need it for gaming as I have my home pc, though a limited gaming capability would be useful. Anyhow, after a bit of research I found the Hp 530 at £270 from e-buyer which seems a good deal for the specs. But now Amazon have just brought down the price of the Acer aspire 7520 from £400 to £300 and the "17 screen tempts me, though I hear the build quility isn't as good.

Anyone know much about these machines or offer advice?

Check out nice PC, they haves ome good deals on FSC Amilo laptops which are generally pretty good. Not personally a fan of Acer machines but to be honest, most budget laptops are much the same.

Random-build-quality-fubars notwithstanding, I have an Acer Aspire with a 17" screen, have had for a year, & really can't fault it...

That one you're looking at is pretty much it's twin, apart from slightly smaller memory & hard drive, & slightly skinnier graphics.

The only thing I'd fault Acer for generally is driver support, should you want to dump the copy of Vista & go for XP, but that may not be applicable to you...
