What ambitions do any forum members still have?

Is life passing me by ?
I never even saw it coming in the first place , never mind passing by.
Seriously , I've always , well , for a few years , anyway , had an odd ambition to go and work in Paraguay. I pictured working in a steamy , run-down , sleazy city and in the evenings sat on a verandah or in a bar , drinking cheap rotgut stuff and meeting strange , bizarre characters , with dodgy pasts , who had somehow wound up in Paraguay.
This all comes about with reading Graham Green's novels. A lot of them are set in , let's say , unsavoury parts of the world ! He's such a good writer , its easy to imagine yourself in the book too.

Yes to some extent I feel life has passed me by.

Although I am happy with my lot - I do wish I had experienced more before getting tied down with commitments.

My Eldest daughter who willl be 17 in July is hoping to join the Army and I hope she does I want all my kids to do more with their lifes than I have and I try to encourage them to live life before getting tied down.

Life does seem to have flown by me and now with age and experience I wish I would have travelled more and seen the world when I was younger but it didn't seem that important at the time. Like it says at the bottom of my posts - 'Youth is wasted on the Young'!

But in the long wrong I have ended up happy I just wish I had more experiences along the way!

Mind you I am far from the crematorium yet I hope so maybe life hasn't quite passed me by just yet! :(

I like your signature Dawny. From a song called The Second Time Around in which there is a line 'Love, Like Youth, Is Wasted On The Young'

Still feel like a kid and never really asked myself the question of what I want in life.....

Saying that Iam now 37.

when I was a little girl all I wanted to do is get married have a lovely house by a stream have lots of children. 2 labradors, and numerous other animals. Bringing my kids up with good home made food and lots of love.

anyway obviously didnt dream hard enough.

I am collecting engagement rings though so maybe Iam just a little delayed!

Actually whenever I see all these third world countries I makes me want to jack my job in and go and work voluntarily for the needy.....

Have been to Pakistan to raise funds and forge links with children from our home country and have to say in the Himalayas the children were adorable i could have took them all home.

Still waiting for my bus to turn up I guess..... probably will be when Iam 80.

I can dream though! LOL ;)

Yeah definitely. Id like to drive along route 66 and visit the grand canyon and niagra falls but it'll never happen because its all seems like too much of a hassle. A lot of it is down to idleness. I can go to bed with all sorts of plans for the following day but when i wake up all i feel like doing is staying in bed... so i do (if im not working anyway) I also feel the fact that most people are bound by their working life which dictates the amount of weeks we have free to do the things we want to do (4 weeks a year isnt much) doesnt help matters.

One of my dreams is to have enough cash to buy a big Harley and travel through America on it. Grand Canyon, Indian reservations, Route 66, San Francisco, the list goes on.

Still, i can dream can't i folks.

Before christmas I was in a bit of a 'plateau' - feeling like

'OK, I am in such and such a part of my life, no real worries, settled, happy, but where do I go from here, what now'

Then at Christmas, Mrs Draggle announced she was pregnant:o

So I guess I got the next few years of my life sorted :)

Not a moan - I am a fortunate man....

Yep, Before you know it you'll have a few little Draggles running around the place.

Cogratulations to you both, as the saying goes you are "sorted"

Just the one small Draggle will keep me busy enough, thank you!
Thank you very much for your good wishes!

Hey draggletail congratulations! Is this your first child? If it is your life as you know it is about to be turned up side down.
Don't want to worry you or anything:thumbsup:

It's a good question and my answer is a definite yes. I feel that years are passing by like months and that as I get older - I'm 36 in June - it keeps on passing by faster.

But this could be a good thing. I've two daughters and my focus is on them more than on myself. The beauty is that as I watch my girls grow up, I can forget that I'm growing - sorry, ageing, too! The grey hairs and even the Middle Age Spread (aka beer belly)? Who cares?!

But it's important to keep aspiring and hoping to do things, travel the world or whatever. My ambition is still to own my own top-notch recording studio and with it a range of Gretsch guitars and so on. The main things I want aren't the ones you can buy: health for my family and me, and loads of love. And a decent slice of luck!

Make the most of every opportunity (Colossians 4:5)

I realised that i was on that track a few years ago and packed my job in and went back to Uni (funnily enough that coincided with me having to sell all my favorite possesions on ebay!), Oh well ... fantasy ambition is to move to texas and marry a cowboy and live on a big ranch, or marry a big cowboy and live on a ranch either or .. im not fussy.

Want your life to slow down? Get rid of your telly, your radio and your computer.

Then see how long the evenings are.
