Mick, you've no idea how gut - wrenchingly dissappointing your answer was, especially having visited your house when you lived down the side of a Co op shop on Attercliffe Rd.
I hate to have to describe myself like this but I was the fat boy of the year, obsessed with cricket ( I recall you were a useful quick bowler ).
Thanks to Paul Oldfield I was given the epithet; BO RILEY as, according to him and his cronies, I was too fat to get into a bath !!!!
That no longer applies thanks to 32 years of gyms !!!
During 5th.year when I was in 5A2 I was friendly with Ian 'Bilko' or 'Billy' Wilkinson but that didn't last long after we left. He married my cousin, became a copper and then got violent with her, she left him !!!
I can't think of anything else to jog your memory other than I was crap at cross-country when we used to go to playing fields opposite Firth Park Grammer.

17-01-2012, 17:28
Sorry about that Trevor but when you called me 'Wiggy' it confused me to say the least. i would guess now that i'm a great deal bigger than you were at school!!! i can also remember attending your fourteenth birthday party. And as regards Ian Wilkinson I'm certain that he nicked my school scarf in the first year at Owler Lane. any other memories of a more clourful nature. Were you in 2C my memory is failing me sometimes because i can remember something concerning Helen Buckley. Michael

I'm still very new at this computer lark so it may take some time between messages.
Yes I certainly remember Helen, least said the better..nudge nudge wink wink !!! Did I explain that I used 'Wiggy' cos that was how Shirty used to refer to you!
Do I recall correctly that you have a younger sister, Denise ? When I visited your house I think it was around her birthday.
I now live in Nottingham with my wife of 36 years, Denise. We have 1 son and 2 grand daughters but like you I never see anyone from the old days.
Actually there's not many of them I would like to meet again after all the ridicule and verbal abuse I had to suffer, hence 32 years of gym memberships!!!
Some more names; Paul Heritage Tony Barber John Broomhead Ken Crownshaw Tony Orwin Mick Haslem Brian Dickinson Stephen Moffat.
I was in 1c 2c 3b1 4a2 5a2. Did you know Peter Bran?

deutsch
19-01-2012, 17:11
I never knew Jim Shirrt called me 'Wiggy', still you learn something every day.
I was in the same classes as you up to the fourth year and then i went into 4g1 and 5g1. I've written a book about Attercliffe in 1963 and 99.7% of the population is wiped out by a Super strain of the Asian Flu. I can't find aybody to publish it though. Keep in touch Michael.

You should have set the book as of now then this particular strain of flu would have wiped out 100% of the population !!!!!

Ah the only thing is my man characters are 14 year old girl and a 13 year old boy. i thought they would have more chance of surviving then and not now. Think about it Trev

I find it an absolute miracle that we're talking at all let alone the number of threads !!!
4 months ago I didn't even own a computer let alone know anything of how to operate the blasted thing!
With your plot, I was casting aspertions on the current population of Attercliffe and the particular strain of flu.Don't get about the girl and boy though, am I just being a bit slow???

Logged in for the first time ever and I noticed loads of names that I remember.

A few more for the mix: Musapha Khan (Mush), D J Smith, Linda Kappes, Barbara Mosely, Marie Rozanski, John Addy, Ken Elvin, Jennifer Jones, Susan McWatt, Christine Lee, Diane Jones, Pat Tuckwood. I still see Jennifer Shaw for lunch every couple of months for a catch up. Tony Barber was my best man.
Mr Holmes (physics), Mr Priest (chemistry), Mr Steel (geography/history), Mr Moss (French) - the worst teacher in history!
The 1C form room on the stage
Hoards of young boys making their own way to the Firth Park playing fields totally unsupervised.

Mick Cooke - I remember playing cricket against you in House matches but I was never in your class. I do remember Jimmy Shirt calling you 'wiggy.' He was a good lad though, so I'm sure it was well meant.

Trev - I remember that you were a cricket fanatic and that you became a decent bat. I also remember you playing in goal and that you had an all black kit - just like Yashin.
I remember that Paul Oldfield called you Bo Riley but I never knew why. I suffered his bullying for the first half of the first year until he moved on to someone else. The only support I got was from David Whitham and some of the girls. He was eventually expelled in the Lower 6 for punching a girl in the face. He married Monica Jones - a match made in 'Heaven.' Hope that I wasn't one of his 'cronies' - he and I were never friends.
You and I shared a double room when we did the trip to Austria in the second year. It was to a town called Imst.
I think that you used to sell seafood in the pubs around your house. You got me involved but I got Chesterfield so I didn't stick it.

Always good to hear that Old Hinde Housians have survived and flourished. But don't forget that none of us are the people we were then - hope we're all better.

Hi davmand, Been workingwhat few brain cells i have left trying to work out who you are. I remember all of the names and i was in the same class in Junior school as Mustapha and i always fancied Barbara Mosley. can't think who you are, so give me a cllue. I remember having a fight with Paul Oldfield in the first year and i can remember beating him in a mile race and as regards Monica Jones, the rest is best left unsaid. Michael

Muzzy Khan, if he didn't become a Chemistry Proff. I'll eat my bunsen burner!!
Some more names; Pete Lowe, Graham Auty (Oggy), Graham Atkinson (Akdo). Diana Kealing, who, I seem to recall had a massive crush on a teacher,Chris Hawse! I have a recollection that they actually went on to have a legitimate rellationship. Good luck to them!!
Janet Barson was in 4a2 and 5a2 and probably became Head Girl. I'll always remember her and Ken Crownshaw as all 3 of us shared the same birthday!!
Dave Whitham was a nice, unassuming lad, big pals with 3rd.year Alan Vernon. And what about Hartley Chapman? He should have gone on to challenge that skinny git,Peter Stringfellow to become one of Sheff's go=getting club entrepeneurs!!
Now, Austria!!
I certainly remember Imst and the bloody crossing on the ferry where I was as sick as the proverbial!!
Do you remember the car that ran into us the day we left Imst, in the snow??
It nearly pushed the bus over a precipice!!
We all got out to push and Shirty said;" It'd go better if he took the bloody hand - brake off !! " George Ridgeway scutched the back of his head !!
We laughed !!!!!
Lev Yashin!! If only I could have been 1% as good!
My cricket burbled along until 1983 when I gave up and became an umpire! I think it was the right thing to do as I was accepted onto the Minor Counties in 1997 (for 5 years ) and since 1991 I've been umpiring County 2nd.games where I've been fortunate to stand with several Test Umpires including a certain Mr.Dickie Bird - TWICE !!!!
You've got to be Dave Smith, as you're the only person I introduced to Kershaws Sea Food. If you are I visited your house ,once, when we both wagged it off! We played tennis using a pencil that rolled either onto in or out and I seem to recall doing a European Cup draw using as many European Teams as we could think of!
If you are David that explains the Jen Shaw connection, please give her my best wishes the next time you see her.
Take care.

Hi Trev and Mick
Yes, I'm Dave Smith.
Was the 1 mile race where you beat Paul Oldfield on sports day? If it was, I think that I remember it.
Trev - some more names from the past that I had forgotten. Diana Keeling did end up going out with Chris Hawes straight after we left school but it didn't last long. Janet Barson did become Head girl. I don't know what happened to Muzzy. I know that he had offers from Uni but I've no idea how he did in his exams.
I remember pushing that bus in Austria. Where was health and safety then?

Where did you both end up? I always wanted to go back to Sheffield but moved to Doncaster in 1972 and have stayed ever since. I go back to see family but it's not like it was. I believe that Hinde House went downhill after we left. I've watched all of the changes over the years as I drive past regularly.

Trev - an umpire with 'Mr Barnsley!' You're my hero. That trumps everything I've ever done. Ace!

Take care young 'uns.

Hi Dave.
I met a lovely girl (hard to believe I know !!) whilst on holiday in Mallorca in 1971. SHE WAS ONLY 15 !!!!!!!!! We got married in 75 but she was from Nottingham and as I had lost both parents by then it was inevitable that I would move there. We moved in March 77.
As for 'Mr.Barnsley' don't get too carried away. As any one will tell you who knows him the public face of Dickie is a long way removed from the private one but litigation prevents me from further details!!
Sheffield is not the place I remember, too many changes.
More nams;Steven Bingham, Kathleen Kennedy,Susan and Pamela Harrison,Anne Potts, Ian Blackband and Linda Wieczorek - excuse spelling. Slasher Pashley flatly refused to attempt her name so called her 'Smith' for the whole of first year French.
I remember you and Jen were almost joined at the hip till at least 3rd,year then I recall a Marylin but if my aging cerebral cortex is working up to speed I have a memory of a lady whose name escapes me, but who had a fantastic voice and sang a duet with Fred Collins at Speech Day at City Hall!! Cheers
