I am visiting Sheffield in May for a week or so for work, and wondered if anyone could recommend a mid-range hotel close to Sheffield Uni (within walking distance to Mushroom Lane and Mappin Museum)?

Thanks. I have stayed at both the Holiday Inn in Fulwood (which someone had told me closed in the last year or so?) and Rutland Hotel. Couldn't think of others in the S10 area.

Holiday Inn in Fullwood is certainly closed.
The Rutland Hotel: http://www.rutland-hotel.com/ is a 10 min walk and reasonably priced.
As is the Westbourne Hotel which you may find a little more upmarket as I am led to believe: http://www.westbournehousehotel.com/

Other than that there are a few private guest houses around the S10 area within a short walking distance. Otherwise you could book into one of the hotels in the Victoria Keys area: Hotel Bristol, Holiday Inn amongst other standard chains. All within a 15-20 min walk of where you are heading.

The S10 hotels may be the best options as being a student you would be likely to be living in a University Hall / Flats or student house which are concentrated in this area and would give you a chance to see the likely neighbourhood you will be in.

Hope that helps.

You could stay at The Harley - I know a couple of people who have stayed there and said it's ok, and very close to the university.
