What on earth are you asking? This doesn't make sense! Please clarify.

if first mainline packed up and left sheffield would we be able to cope with the other bus operators or not?

I dont think the other operators have the capacity to take the extra load which would be put on them if first left the scene.

At every strike, the main weird thing is that people seem to carry on as usual ! Roads are traffic jamless, others get on't bus, tram or walk...
The last strike was in the Summer when there were no schools services, and co-incided with the summer holidays. Personally, I think that whilst we could cope for a few weeks, we'd struggle for anything more than that.
For example, during the last strike, I rearranged several of my rotas in order to get Sundays off... anything more than 3-4 weeks and I would have been paying for taxis at £14 return, or not working there at all...

first mainline have managed to make themselves invincible and a neccessity in sheffield. None of the other bus companies operaate after 8.15. They are only intrested in profit margins though and the tram is the only real alternative but it only covers a fraction of the city. If first was to leave sheffield it would be replaced by stagecoach (the other bug national bus company) and they'd do better deals on weekly tickets like tram and bus ones for 10 quid or something. When pensioners get free travel though a lot of bus companies will complain because there could be busses full of people paying nothing to go anywhere and i'm starting to ramble a bit now so I'll leave it at that.

Pensioner's fares will be subsidised by the the government. i,e. the government pays the bus company everytime a pensioner gets on a bus.
I now walk at its much better...

We really need to get a decent transport structure in place, which will include through ticketing and a extension of the tram network.
First are at the end of the day a comercial company who have to look after the profit side of things, where as the public are left with reduced services as a result.
Transport is a real neccesity and as such should not be left to the private sector,we will have to pay to make sure people can travel about in comfort and get reliable busses and trams.
