why does everyone dislike batemoor? i mean what do you thinks wrong with it

I lived there for a couple of Years, It was not to bad. But would not go back now.
It has a right bad reputation now.
I lived in the flats near the batemoor pub..
Not been there for years

I live just accross the way at Lowedges but have a lot of friends at Batemoor.
I think that because there are so many drug dealers and addicts on there and the fact that there is a high volume of vandalism and thefts Batemoor gets a bad name along with Jordo.
Although it happens whichever area you go to Lowedges, Batemoor etc are all classed as "Bad areas"

no apart from the drug dealers but everyone slags batemoor off just becouse they here other people talking about it if they come they would see that it's not that bad just another council estate like all the others.

I can honestly say. Its like any area if you live there and know the people round there. You can be totally blind what is going off.
A friend of mine has lived there most of his life and he says its never been as bad.
But again if its what you are use to???

he must not have lived there about 7 years ago then when it was really bad with the gangs around the shops and bus windows going through all the time and not to mention all of the drug addicts. it's allot better now than what it ust to be when the 3 big tower block's were there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well a friend of mine and her family have had to move because of other people round there threatening to beat up various members of the family. they cudunt go out for fear of a beating and thankfully have now been re-housed over the other side of sheffield and dont have to put up with the intimidation of various local thugs.

also while i was lukin for a house i went to view one at batemoor....and i told my mum to just drive on.... it was not cared for and neither were the surrounding places. it was foul!

these are my 2 experiences of batemoor. so my view can only be one of `i wudunt think it was that nice'

I don't mean to slag down council estates but it's just like any other. There are some idiots but thats life.

I'd recomend it to other people. I even go for the occasional lunchtime pint in the batemoor!

it's ok if you keep to your self and dont look vulnarable i've lived there all my life nowt wrong with the place apart from when the council move all it's crap into the area it used to be areally nice area before they moved all the crap in same as with the jordanthorpe and low edges estate.

i am. my mates lived on jordo for 2 and a half years so i have spent some time up there. No complaints as yet.

I was just sticking up for the area sigmar

lived on jordo for last 25 years never had any problems all so called drug dealers have gone, country side a mere 10 mins walking in any direction ........tops

theres nowt wrong with batemoor or jordo now it's the best that it's been apart from when it was first built lived on batemoor all me life

i was born and bred in batemoor i still remember when my sister lived on the 14th floor of the rhodes tower block in jordanthorpe and batemoor centre i love the place it's a lot better now than what it used to be about 7 years ago with vandalism and crime out of control but it's back to normal now and it's better than ever.

Lived on Batemoor & then Jordanthorpe for 35 years in total.

Ok, a few years ago we had the same problems as other places with drugs, vandals etc

But it's been sorted now. I can think of a lot worse places in Sheffield than this. Never had any real trouble with anybody, i like it where i live, and have got some good friends & neighbours.

I think you will find that most of the people who dislike Batemoor don't really know the place or the people, they will have probably just "heard" of the place, and will have based their decision on that. If all the stories about Batemoor & Jordanthorpe were true then we would all need to have barbed wire fences round our houses, and walk round in bullet proof vests.
Places get a reputation and often that reputation sticks, we know what its like to live around here, so do what i do , don't take any notice of what anybody else thinks,we know it's ok, and that's that.

I lived there 6 months first night I moved there joyriders crashed into my neighbours window........ Its depressing, the people looks depressed and tired of life, its bloody minging....... Sorry but it bloody is.......

And my home is not minging, neither am i, i dont happen to be depressed and i am certainly not tired of life.

So basically all we are going to do on this topic then is slag off the people who basically say that the area is a **** tip then?

Whats the point of posting a topic when you will automatically slag off the people who tell you the place is a dump.

Just like I posted about the manor a while back and got loads of abuse.

I DONT live on Jordanthorpe, Batemoor or the manor by the way and I would never wish to live/move there due to the fact that there are:

Too many druggies/vandals/chavs and just general knobheads living there for my liking.

I'm not having a go at the lovely people on this forum who live in those areas- big hello to you lovely people- its just the problem idiots I'm having a go at!

I go to Batemoor several times every week, and the area does have an awful lot of children hanging around on the streets long after their parents should have put them to bed. Maybe that is part of the problem.

My aunty moved onto the estate when they built i and it was lovely. My daughter got her first flat on batemoor road about 2 months ago and it is fairly run down now but it is getting quite old now. She knows quite a few people that live there so i`m not too bothered about her living there. As far as i know they`re not druggies. If she goes out at night she only goes to her mates across the road. I do wish she lived near me on the shiregreen but then again you see a lot of bad reviews about my estate here.

I've lived on Batemoor for 4 and a half years. I moved from a "posh" town in the south where I had far more bother than I've ever had living on Batemoor. It's about how you live your life I guess - my neighbour moved because he thought it was awful and yet I've virtually been trouble free. My neighbours are really lovely and look out for me. You'll get trouble anywhere you go, it's just learning how to live with it. I keep my head down and mind my own business. If kids/youths are out causing trouble I keep my head down and don't invite it on my doorstep. It's the same everywhere you go - if you look closely at any area there are bad elements. Just gotta be streetwise that's all, and don't look like you're easily intimidated.

My daughter`s pregnant now and would like a house in the same area. Are there any?

I've lived on Jordanthorpe all my life.

Most of my friends and boyfriend live on batemoor and there is absoulty nothing wrong with the place.

Areas get bad reputations through small talk, these days all areas are the same anyway!

She'd be so lucky! Council won't give her a house until child 5, apparently a one bedroomed flat is sufficient, even an upper floor one!

I know people who live on Batemoor and to be honest, I feel safer walking through there at night than I do in Crookes.

Yes there are some dodgy people, but there are dodgy people everywhere.

I don't think its bad at all.
