Did anyone see how the paramedica car crashed into the lamp-post next to the tram stop just off City Road on Wednesday PM. The passenger's side windscreen was damaged; I couldn't tell if was hit from the inside or out.

'Cutting it fine' would be an understatement. mrchinnery 07-04-2005, 20:20 It looked like the car took a left hand bend and oversteered on the tram tracks into a lamp post on it's nearside. It's only yards away from where other cars have come a cropper. But what do I know about these things; I'm just and ordinary driver. I just hope the windscreen wasn't damaged by the passengers head. The lamp post was knocked over and in direction of where people would be awaiting the tram. jubby 07-04-2005, 22:39 All I know was the road was closed. Eariler we saw loads of coppers just down from the cemertry along with a DVLA road tax claming van. hj dary 08-04-2005, 06:35 Originally posted by cgksheff I haven't seen the crash in question but have recently become very aware of the driving style of a paramedic estate car (or maybe different ones) over the last couple of weeks. 'Cutting it fine' would be an understatement. I thought the very same thing, last week when I was heading up from Hunters Bar towards Crookes when a Volvo paramedic car came round towards me from the Botanical Gardens. He was on the wrong side of the bollards and travelling at such a speed that he almost 'lost' the back end. Behind him/her was that little Audi that they use and if I didnt know better I would have said they were racing each other. If you read Roadcraft, the Police drivers hand book it states that use should drive at a speed that allows you to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. Now I know they would have been in a rush to save a life but the day after when I went round that bend again in the same direction that they went I thought that given all the street furniture, the bend , the people crossing the road at the zebra crossing and the fact that they were travelling on the wrong side of the road he should have shaved off at least 15 to 20 miles an hour. This isn't like me, but I even thought about complaining to the ambulance service. While its right they are given the training to drive fast to save lives I dont think its right that they do it insuch a way that they put others at risk. hj dary 10-04-2005, 12:53 A bit of an update here. We had to go up to Walkley on friday morning and drove past the bodyshop place off Providence road. On the back of the big old flatbed recovery truck they have was a very poorly looking volvo paramedic car. The front nearside was bent, lights missing e.t.c and the font bumper bar was in the passenger seat. It was only after I had left Walkley and driven to Chesterfield my little lad said " Why didn't you take some photos of that car and put them un the Forum dad" Duuuuurrrr. Never though of that did I !! |
