A recent conversation in the pub had us all asking the question: 'just where is Sausage Street?'

Does anyone know or have a vague idea where it might be?

Owlie: I tried that and nothing came up. We think it's somewhere in the Midlands, but that's about as accurate as we can get.

No Sausage Street anywhere in UK according to Multimap (www. multimap.com).

Or am I missing a joke here...............

It's just off Egg Avenue.

If they've run out of Sausage Streets you could always go to Egg Lane in Drayton and then over to Bacon Street in London if you're still peckish.

If you fancy anything to drink with that there's Coffee Pot Lane in Haseley. :)

Cardiff has a "Bangor Lane" - probably the nearest you'll get!

I'm fairly certain that it's not in Wales. Apparently, it's over three-hundred years old, but where the hell is it?

It's past the marmite motorway, through salmon canyon and into the tuna valley.... hope this helps.

Sausage Street, over 300 years old, in the Midlands........

Long Eaton?

I really do suspect SM is going to give as a couple more clues then astound us with the punchline.

I used to work in Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Never heard of a Sausage Street in the town before.

Perhaps you could talk us through your investigations so far.......

The "Sausage Street" thing started in World War 1, when large parts of France were in British occupancy. To make things easier on the squaddies, French names were substituted with English on maps, so people could find their way round. Names like Sausage Street, Mash Street & Dammit Street (really) suggested a name-finder short either of time or of patience.

Over the weekend, instead of spending most of my time on SF, I did some extensive investigation in the hope of clearing this strange mystery up.

I got nowhere.

All I want to know is: where is Sausage Steet?

Longcol
11-04-2005, 18:54
I think we can safely say that there is no such place in this country.

Still not discounting some joke / punchline but the "clues" from SM are a bit too obscure / cryptic for my liking.

Sam Miguel

Oh, but there is such a street!

Think 'sideways' you do
when solving this clue.

Hmmm.

LoopyLou

IS = sausage street

"I" being the street
and
"S" the sausage

I know this is wrong but I thought at least by having a guess it might start the ball rolling for some of you cleverer ones.

Ludlow Food Festival

For this festival huge marquees are put up in the grounds of the castle which is hosted by a few small producers of traditional food and drink, that offer there produce for tasting and for purchasing. And are all found in the Ludlow area and the rules for this festival were organised by a group of volunteers, that states that only producers who are in the counties that are either side of the Welsh border are eligible.

Out of the castle, Ludlow town is taken over by a series of trails that visitors can sample and vote for breads, cheeses, ales and sausages. The Sausage Trail is one of the elements of Ludlow's food festival, which is different that makes it stand out from the rest. Every year Ludlow’s five butchers each come up with a new sausage recipe for the Sausage Trail. Around 1,500 people buy a voting form on the Saturday morning of the Food Festival and walk round the five butchers' shops tasting a sample of each butcher's festival competition sausage, and then vote out of ten for each one. When people have completed the trail they hand in their voting form and get a whole cooked sausage of their choice in a bun.

I think I get the prize Miguel you rapscallion - The Ludlow sausage trail - the dark cold winters nights must simply fly by!!

Yes, I googled that one as well,.........does SM's "clues" amount to something like "sausages treat"?
