Hi All,
A friend and I were discussing the possibility of starting our own team.
It'd be a good standard, certainly good enough to start in the Sheffield Cricket League Division C.
How would we go about it? We'd need a ground obviously, but what other costs should we factor in?
Can you just enter the league?
Cheers
Gaz
You can just enter a league as long as you meet their requirements. Sheffield League wouldn't be a problem as long as you can find a ground free on a Saturday afternoon which is generally the problem.
To hire a decent ground you'll be talking between £50-70 a game, then umpires for Sheffield League are £25 a match but most of the time you don't have them in Division C, plus match ball (around £15) and a scorer (most kids will do this for around £10. Depending on where you play you may also have to sort the teas.
Get 12 players...charge them £40 subs for the year which will cover the ground hire, then your max match day costs before teas are £50 so £5 match fees (about the norm) will cover this then pay whatever for the teas.
Not to sure if you could go straight into a league you choose, might have to like start of in the bottom and work yourself up not to sure on that though. I play in the 2nd division of the yorkshire and derbyshire league. As i'm 16 I pay £3.50 a match and adults pay £7.50. Tea's are usually charged at £33 for the away team and must be provided. We don't get umpires every week but I think they are around £20-£30. Our ground costs about £1000 for the year. Over a season of 20 games ish... I guess you need to be taking around £90-£100 from your subs to play and the money from the team paying for their tea's. Hope that helps, pm me if you need anything else.

they've put a lot of work in this year into improving it...
What team do you play for again? High Green?

Gaz, yeh High green mate, the council have actually done a reasonable job this year and stuck to their promise of improving it, but with 2 teams on it they might pay even more attention...
Keiron, yeh we're doin ok, won 3 lost 3 so far, probly destined for mid tableish...
My old man was walking the dog in Ecco park the other day and said there were kids playing football on the square with footy boots on??? That must have done some damage to the wicket.
