As some of you know i am a qualified dog groomer by trade until i had an heart attack 3 years ago.
and i am starting to miss it:(

so what i am thinking of doing is going back to mobile gradually.

i was thinking of doing dog manicuring as i recall when i lived in chesterfield it was rather popular then gradually going back to grooming

so would people have a doggie manicurist or am i wasting my time.

i used to cut the nails and then file them nice and pretty

thanks amy xxx

Well I would if they actually needed it, but I take them to the vets if they need a trim normally, it would depend a lot on prices.

Personally, no. But my dogs have white nails (Eddy has just two black ones) so I cut them and file them myself as I can see the quick.

I might have someone do them if they had black nails as they put me off a bit... also, for me it's easy enough as I have a car to get to the vets and have their nails done (ok, they don't file them but I could do that) so not sure if you could cover your travel expenses and still beat vet prices. (I think most vets charge around a tenner)

I certainly wouldn't go to a 'doggy manacurist' though - I'm sure some people would like the idea but it's a bit too 'poochy' for me so it would depend on how you marketed it as well :)

Good luck with it - I hope you manage to get back into it :)

Oh right, in that case people may be more interested as many dogs don't like visits to the vets.

Again, good luck with it :)

I usually just cut my own dogs nails which I have only needed to do once since she was a puppy. Most dogs nails get worn down from them walking on hard surfaces. Maybe you could offer an all in one service which includes nails, teeth and ear cleaning and if you are really brave anal glands. I brush and clean my dogs ears and teeth but would never attemp to squeeze her anal glands and if that was offered as part of a service I would consider booking her in for a full works

I wasn't meaning nail cutting wasn't popular - I just would be put off by the word 'manicure' for dogs  (but that's possibly just me! I own working dogs and the very thought of Takara having a 'manicure' is hilarious 'cos she aint posh or girly!)

I'm not surprised that OAPs (and possibly handbag dog owners?) are your best target audience as they tend to walk their dogs less so the nails don't wear down themselves.

I'd probably be interested at that price!

Dog was at the vet today, getting her booster jabs. The vet also clipped the claws on one paw, which I hadn't managed to do myself. Dog doesn't like her paws touched, and she's got black claws, so I tend to be nervous when I try to do them and I think she picks up on this.

She's also got a bit of tartar on her front teeth and don't much fancy trying to brush them! She's not vicious or anything, but she's such a bloody wimp and doesn't half put it on with me :hihi:

Gadget rarely needs his nails clipping as they wear down naturally, but I would be very interested in this package every now & then... let me know if you decide to go ahead with this :)

in between doggie grooming appointments i cut my own dogs claws, so its not something I'd be interested in. My groomer shampoos and cuts, and does nails, teeth, ears and anal glands all for £25 (and she comes back smelling devine) .... so its a pretty competative business to be in.
