Hello,

Just wondered if offer any information regarding a Roman Catholic Reform/Industrial school which existed in 1881 at Nether Hallam in the ecclesiastical parish of St Philips.

I have found that my Gt Grandmother was an inmate there and wouldlike to find out more about the kind of place it was and why she might have been sent there.

Regards

hello and welcome to the Forum :)

There are at least two existing threads about the Reformatory. This one (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=139438) os probably the most useful.

Many thanks Hugh,

I read the thread with great interest.

My Gt Grandma was at St. Josephs as the address given on the 1881 census report was Howard Road. Incidentaly her younger sister was also there 10 years later accoring to the 1891 census, and her two brothers in 1881 in a reformatory school in Holme on Spalding Moor. I wonder what circumstances led to them all being in homes. Although I do know that their mother in 1881 was in Wakefield Asylum listed as a 'Lunatic' and their father had been in jail for hitting their mother
