What do people think about this proposed development? From what I understand it will be located between beighton and swallownest next to rother valley country park. For more details see here : http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=48560

Sheffield Council are opposing the development.

Themed indoor visitor attraction – likely to be based around the performing arts that will have some similarities to the MGM Studios/Universal attraction in Florida.
· A smaller themed ‘experience’ likely to be operated by a major brewery.
· A live theatre complex/performance venue with a capacity of 1500 seats, associated academy/rehearsal area, TV studios/media broadcast and performance area.
· An extreme sports complex such as climbing wall, white water canoe run, the majority of which will be indoor.
· A leisure complex including a multiplex cinema and bowling alley.
· A four-star hotel with spa.
· A conference centre/convention centre.
· An exhibition facility and sponsors’ mall.
· A budget hotel.
· A range of food and drink outlets.
· Ancillary retail facilities
· An outdoor high-tech golf driving range.

i would say yes, anything to bring growth to a much needed area. and with the great sporting facilities we have already i would say this would be the jewel to this areas sport regeneration.

Certainly good in principle, but they would seriously need to sort out the surrounding infra-structure - i.e transport links. It is already very very hectic round this area.

I've seen the outline plans, briefly met the developer and I can say that they have all kinds of ideas for sorting the transport infrastructure out.

It looks like an excellent project. It's just a shame that Sheffield objects to anything that happens anywhere else in South Yorkshire. When I worked in Rotherham I was told that the reason Rotherham doesn't have any cinemas is because Sheffield objected to any proposals that were put forward. Sounds a little selfish to me.
