View Full Version : Whats your views on rotherham united move to don valley stadium susie34 02-06-2008, 05:30 what do you think to rotherham united moving to sheffield ? steveb2007 02-06-2008, 06:08 There will be 2 teams in Sheffield now.Sheffield United and Rotherham United!!:hihi: Incubus 02-06-2008, 06:59 :) I might go watch them, can't be any worse than the other two ;) Riccardoh 02-06-2008, 08:59 Now Sheffield is a three team city; will Rotherham have to play on Friday night so their fixtures don't clash with United or Wednesday? lizmachin 02-06-2008, 09:24 what do you think to rotherham united moving to sheffield ? If it saved the club it has to be a positive move. floyd77 02-06-2008, 09:38 Will they have to change their name like wimbledon did when they moved? Shefferham Utd? Riccardoh 02-06-2008, 11:06 Maybe the should be named along the same lines as the new airport. I.e. Sheffield-Rotherham United Millers. Ousetunes 02-06-2008, 11:15 It makes sense IMO. Let's be honest, it's hard to differentiate between Millmoor and the tip that surrounds it (no, not Rotherham itself, I mean Booth's scrap yards!!). Don Valley is a decent stadium, under used in my opinion and not far from Millmoor itself. It is also well out of the way of Sheffield's major football grounds and the city might benefit from away team supporters coming into - or at least near to - the city. (Meadowhall Retail Park and Centertainment could do well business wise with their fast food outlets.) It's a good move and let's not forget, any queues which arise down there will be from shoppers heading for Meadowhall, certainly not hordes of Millers' fans heading for the match! magic_rat 02-06-2008, 11:23 As a miller who lives in sheffield I think it is a good thing..... It gets us away from the booth family, and hopefully we will be in a shiny new stadium within 5 years... And it will be nice to walk into town to get a supertram to the match, and be able to have a pint or two beforehand....... freyasdad 02-06-2008, 11:55 It makes perfect sense in the short term the only problem if there is one is in the long term. Decent facilites/stadium so why not if it gets them away from the trouble that is causing damage to the club. If Manure can play outside Manchester and hold its name then why can't the Millers. Heyesey 02-06-2008, 12:00 It's nobody's ideal solution, but it's better than the club going under. Hopefully they can get a new stadium built somewhere in Rotherham, in time. Funky_Gibbon 02-06-2008, 13:54 I look forward to even more traffic congestion around Meadowhell when I'm trying to get home... Ousetunes 02-06-2008, 14:01 I look forward to even more traffic congestion around Meadowhell when I'm trying to get home... No need to worry, it's Rotherham United we're talking about here. Their fans' minibus, two cars and bicycle will not impede your shopping. (Like in York, you'll not even know there's a match on!) discodown 02-06-2008, 16:49 Why are they moving? Heyesey 02-06-2008, 19:20 Why are they moving? Could not agree terms with the landowners at Millmoor (the Booth family, former owners of the club). discodown 02-06-2008, 19:38 Ok. Better them moving than folding but realistically DVS will not have much atmosphere I would have thought howeyz 02-06-2008, 19:43 It's great for Sheffield. We not only have the worlds oldest club but we are now the first city in the world to have two Uniteds. In true Sheffield style though there both crap. The Manager 02-06-2008, 21:16 I think it will be good for sheffield, at least DVS will get more use out of it!! Modernsoulman 02-06-2008, 23:37 Suppose the Wendy's will be celebrating as they're no longer the worst club in Sheffield, well not for the next season but after that who knows:D Pegasus 03-06-2008, 07:27 what do you think to rotherham united moving to sheffield ? I think it will be a great move: It's a modern stadium. Its got great facilities inside the stadium for fans. There's plenty of parking. It's easy to get to with a good transport infrastructure. There's plenty of pubs places to eat before the game etc. It's got modern facilities for the athletes/players (no comments here please :hihi:) Some Millers supporters I've been talking to are worried about the atmosphere. I've been to a couple of game at DVS and its a great view and the covered stand generates a great atmosphere. I hope it's a success for them I will certainly be going to a couple of games which I would not have gone to at Millmoor. Hopman 03-06-2008, 14:43 I've seen football played at DVS and the pitch is a long way from the stand. It remains to be seen how many visiting fans will want to sit (uncovered) behind the goal. No its not and they'll have to bring their brollys and scarves like we had to in the seventies. :hihi: |
