I know Bob. Would be very careful and meet first before any type of sitting on babies took place.

have to say i think the internets great but i'd be very careful about asking for a babysitter on the internet, it's sort of like asking herod to look after the kids.

About 6 months ago, I was looking for a childminder in that area also for two days a week. The search was quite disheartening so we checked out nurseries. My son now happily goes to a nursery in Woodseats whcih I am really happy with. It is no more expensive either (for us anyway - I think it depends on the hours you want).

Have you tried contacting the sheffield childrens information service - they have a register of all formally registered childminders broken down by area.

Thanks for that. I called em earlier and they are v helpful. List of local childminders on the way.

The nursery in Woodseats is very good indeed. Our main problem is the flexibility we need. My wife works a varied schedule as a nurse, and I work for myself. Mostly from home but frequently overseas. We also travel frequently. So while a basic two days is a great idea some weeks we will need no help at all, and other we will need much more. Obviously with their staffing needs etc it's tricky for a nursery to provide for such varied demand. In fact, most childminders are unable to help there too. Och well. The search goes on.

There is an agengy based in Dore (but covers all of Sheffield) that sounds like it might be just what you need. It's called Adaptable Childcare, and was basically set up for families just like you - who need very flexible childcare!

I know about it because I used to do some childcare work for them whilst I was at university. They can provide all kinds of childcare - qualified nannies, experienced nannies, mother's helps, evening babysitters, before/after school care etc.

They are really friendly and might be just what you're looking for!

Have a look at their website

Good luck!

Hi Joyphil,

I don't know if you're still searching for childcare but I have recently moved to Sheffield and am looking for part-time work. I have nannied previously for 16 month old twin boys and was an au pair in Spain for another toddler. I have also been a teaching assistant in a primary school and taught children aged 4 - 13 at a drama club. I have a full CRB check and can provide references as I realise this is a VERY important aspect when looking for childcare. Please let me know if this is of any interest to you.

Best of luck!

I'm sure you could find a childminder that is flexible if you phone round, my mum is a registered childminder as has been since i was a baby (24 years now) and she is very flexible, she has always looked after kids from different circumstances, she currently has a little girl of 7 (who she looked after since she was 2 months old) who she has just a few days one week, not at all another and everyday another week due to her mum working from home another little boy she looks after she just has in the school holidays, shes always been very flexible but i'm sure it depends on the childminder, my mum is one of a group of childminders who live in the S20 area (and shes good friends with most of the others) who are all excellent and from what i know quite flexible. good luck!!!

No but I know a really good day nursery which doesn't stipulate minimum number of sessions ;)

Joyphil has moved to cornwall some months ago so I feel this thread is no longer relevent, as they are unlikely to require childminders in sheffied any longer.

Could a mod close the thread please..
