HotPhil 07-04-2005, 10:56 You'll get some varied opinions. From I understand it's no better/worse than the others i.e. there's some places you won't get a signal. However, I've heard some shocking stories about their customer services. If you're looking at 3 for hi-speed internet access, forget it - they have a "walled garden". You can only access content they want you to (buy). Lickable 07-04-2005, 11:01 I want it beacuse its the only network offering the Nokia 6680. I think a may choose another phone though. I wish sony would hurry with the k750i. HotPhil 07-04-2005, 11:05 6680's coming soon to Orange (rumoured to be next week). I've got a 6630 and all I can say is that I hope the 6680 is better. I've been trialling 3G handsets since last September and all I can say is that I wouldn't advise anyone to move to 3G yet (on any of the networks offering it) unless they have specific needs to do so. BobDaBuilder 07-04-2005, 11:05 Don't even go there...I had the LG 8110 on three last year and couldn't for the life of me get a signal anywhere....I mean come on law of obvious...I live on top of a massive hill so where's the problem...I have now unlocked it and using a T-mobile chip in it... And as Phil mentioned....the customer service leaves a heck of a lot to be desired....    wendy 07-04-2005, 13:58 Well I've had the LG 8120 since the end of October and had very few problems. Signal wise I've had times when it's dropped calls and even once where it was down for about an hour (max) but generally the signal has been better then on T mobile and all in all I would say that I've had less calls dropped. Just lucky I suppose!:D Customer service - it depends who answers the phone. I forgot to put the roaming on and rang them from Spain and the operator I spoke was very good and he sorted it within 5 minutes - something which once took a vodaphone operator 45 minutes to do! Also when I have phoned them I have always got through which is more then I can say for T-Mobile - 40 minutes on hold and sometimes a recorded message saying try later! . So I would say it varies reviews have been bad but I took the risk and have been happy I get more then twice the number of inclusive minutes plus 100 text for only £9 more a month then I was paying T-Mobile. Basically I would say it depends how "essential" the phone is 24 hours, if like me it's not the end of the world if you can't make a call for a while or the call drops out then risk it! Not that I am saying that there has been much of a risk for me because it's been fine but you know what I am saying. Base your decision on your own personal situation and remember everyone's experience differs partly because tolerance and other factors play a part! beansfeast 07-04-2005, 14:09 I've also got an LG8120 on 3 and the signal has been absolutely brilliant. I've never lost it yet (5 months into contract) and I've been in most parts of the country at one time or another. The customer service is crap, simply coz they're abroad and difficult to understand. But then aren't most of them by now!? What I would say is that I'm looking forwards to the end of my contract and going back to my older Nokia 6610. I don't see the point of camera phones, the picture quality is crap and I will use my camera if I want to take photo's!! I also don't get on with the phone, texting is slow and you have to spend hours if you want to set up the phone to exactly how you want it. I'm also fed up of these cheap monthly offers where you end up paying the last 9 months at full price and having to claim it back later. You get the absolute minimal amount of help from the companies in understanding how it all works... good luck! HarrietStar 07-04-2005, 14:30 me and my partner are both on 3, in terms of signal i haven't really had a problem except when out on the humberside coast around withernsea, but in sheffield and london it's always fine. The problems we have had are with customer service - based in asia (india or pakistan not sure) and i know this is going to sound racist, but i just can't understand them, and i don't think they understand me. My boyfriends LG got stolen last summer and the insurance company sent him a new handset within a week. After 3 weeks, he was till waiting for a new sim card. It took him from mid july to late september to get a new sim card off 3 with phone calls at least three times a day - since then we havn't rung the customer service line so i can't say if it's improved, but it was terrible then. They kept fobbing him off, saying it had been sent, then saying it was royal mail, then saying it hadn't actually left the warehouse etc, it cost him about £30 ringing the helpline everyday and they refused to remiburse him or give him any compensation whatsoever. the tarrifs are good though, and the handsets and signal is always fine for us. tom_a_west 12-04-2005, 00:16 3 may offer cheap, good quality phones, but the problem with them is that you have to use up all your credit within 30 days, whats the differenct between that and a contract phone on a decent network SilentStatic 12-04-2005, 00:32 My flatmate has an LG phone on 3 and says the reception is rubbish (we're up in Crookes). Kristian 12-04-2005, 01:15 I was considering moving to 3 from Orange, but after seeing the problems my friend has had with hers, I decided to stay put. She lives over in Gleadless Valley, and her signal never fails to drop out when she's at home. She has an LG phone (not sure on specific model), but it is the same one that was reported on Watchdog a few weeks ago! |
