I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend in sheffield and was thinking of The Wig & Pen or Crystal, does anyone know any other, better or more romantic places to pop the question.
As you would imagine i want to make is an occasion to remember!

Thanks in advance......

First of all welcome to the Forum.
For a proposal, I would suggest Damons at crystal peaks, It is a lovely place to go, but make sure you book.
Also if it is your birthday, you eat for free!

Does it have to be a restaurant??

How about somewhere outdoors ? - The Peak District has some lovely atmospheric places - monsal head, mam tor, stanege edge etc.

Or in the city centre? The peace gardens, The winter gardens, the botanical gardens.

You are better off in a Restaurant to get "I Will" for a reply, as you can ply your future intended with wine or Champers.

Thanks but it is going to be on a thursday night, might be a bit cold in the peaks, and yes champers will help my case!

There is nothing more romantic than getting down on bended knee and proposing to your future bride to be (hopefully, it's not like on the tele, y'know) than to do so......,

whilst she is having one of her wisdom teeth removed, is pumped up with anaesthetic and is in a state of semi-conciousness, tired from having her gums sawn into and her mouth stretched a metre wide.

'Will you marry me?' you ask beneath a shower of broken tooth and blood, managing to keep out of the dentist's way.

'Aaauugh' she screams. The dentist translates this sound to you as a definite yes. You jump up, banging your head on the lamp that's beaming into your now wife-to-be's gob and dash out of the surgery.

Cue romantic music.

personally i don't like Damon's that much, well for that type of occasion anyway. i'd stick with wig and pen or crystal, which ever you feel most comfortable in.

Make it memorable.

Pick a nice night after work... make up a picnic.. go up to Stanage Pole, look one way over Sheffield, the other over the Peak District.. nobody to distract you... look into her eyes.. take her in your arms... then knock her for six!

Never forgotten!! :P

Good luck...

Maybe that's why I've had the same girl for 15 years through thick and thin and never a crossed word in all that time :)

I think planning the 'proposal' is lovely...well done Mr Romantic!!

I hope you have asked her father for her hand in marriage....you really have to tick all the boxes to score maximum points!!

I would recommend wherever you choose to do the bended knee thing is somewhere special for you both or somewhere you have both been before....you are gonna need to be relaxed to enjoy the moment too"!!!

Good Luck

La Salsa - London Road.

Friends of mine recently hired the venue for a party of 20. At the end of a lovely meal, our host got down on bended knee and proposed!

The wedding is now being planned! She said yes!

Good luck barrychem! Every best wish for a romantic occasion!

yes the father has been asked, man that was scary!

Thanks everyone for your input, the people of sheffield are such nice people!

I think the peace gardens have it!!

Sorry but i am amazed at reading most of these posts - Damons? the Peace Gardens? Christ!!!

If my boyfriend is reading this - take note!!!

You want her to remember the night the man who shes going to spend the rest of her life with. If a bloke took my to Damons on a first date it wouldnt impress me let alone propose?!! Im so gobsmaked lol!

Take her somewhere she will remember, somewhere shes probably not been before so it stands out to her and makes it special.

I would recommend that you take her to the Old Vicaredge at Ridgeway - oh yes very special - it spricy but its worth it and you both will enjoy it ideal for a place to get down on one knee!

Hope everything works out x

Hey Xamanix,

I agree completely. Damons? Fantastic if you want to mix with a load of drunken call centre staff out on a works do but in terms of a romantic meal I would put it on par with Burger King.

The Old Vicarage would be excellent or perhaps Fisher's at Baslow. For less money I would rather take someone to one of the quaint pubs in the Peaks and propose after sheltering from a storm next to an open fire.

Saying that, my own proposal was pretty poor. I was completely unprepared and could only offer the torn up wrappings from the inside of a cigarette packet as an engagement ring! Almost as bad as Homer Simpson's onion 'engagement' ring! However, she did see the funny side and say yes!

Fishers is lovely too - been to them both very nice!

Well atleast it made the occassion memorable and different!

I think I would rate Fishers over the Old Vicarage. Anywhere that offers you miniature shperherd's pies to go with your apparetif gets my vote! Both are a bit pricey though. I reckon Sheffield needs a little more competition to get the prices down. Inexplicably, I find London much cheaper to eat out in than Sheffield.
