Born in 1903 married Nellie Hill in 1924 had a son called Denis in the same year. Divorced within 5 years. Nellie moved to Manchester, joseph remarried a lady by the name of Lillian(don't know surname). Lived up Crookes in 50's. he also died around that time alsohe was deaf.

I have tracked Nellie down and got thatside of the tree though one of the family over there.

There is a lady called Eleanor Copeland marrying a Joseph Yeardley in Dec Quarter in 1933 in Sheffield. Are you sure on the second wife's name?

Yes I have a photo at the wedding with both names on it and I once met the lady when I was very young.

Checked up till 1944 and still haven't found another Joseph Yeardley marriage in Sheffield apart from the 1933 one.
Have you got Joseph's birth certificate to say who his parents were so we can find them in the 1901 census.

No I have not found out who Joseph's parents were. I am wondering if you know how some people adopt other completley different names and Eleanor Coupland chose Lillian?

The best way to sort out the dilemma is to order the certificates for both the marriage and the birth. These will tell you the father of Joseph and confirm if you have the right Joseph marrying Eleanor. Lillian could be her middle name or just the name she was know by. I will double check if I can find another one first.

Found a Louisa Bond marrying a Joseph Yeardley in Sept Quarter of 1930 in Sheffield
A Frances A Golding married a Joseph in Rotherham in the same period.

my dad worked with a George Yeardley at Newton Chambers - he lived at High Green.

He could be one of the High Green /Outibridge side os the Yeardley's

It would help if we know anyone who knows what Lillian may have been an alternative or nickname insead of?

Could this be the family that lived in the house opposite the Newton Hall at Chapeltown at the end of Falding street?

There used to be some yeardley`s opposite my mums on the shiregreen. Could it be the same family?
