Going home on the 41 bus tonight, about quarter to five, the road that runs behind the co-op, past the big Argos and the Boardwalk (Angel Street?) had a police transit and a couple of cars, and an ambulance on there, and the police had blocked the road outside Primark and werent letting anyone through. The bus ended up having to go down to Park Square, along past the holiday in, and turn right and the end to come up past the markets and carry on home. Anyone know what the road was blocked for?

I walked past just before 5 too, and the road was blocked up and someone was being put into an ambulance, but I didn't really stop and look! There was a bus stopped, that's all I saw I'm afraid, so can't add anything to what is already known!

Hope everyone is ok though.

Isn't it weird, when things like this happen and we could have all walked right past each other and not known. I suppose that's where the SF t-shirts come in!

It will be that crossing leading to primark, the number of nearmisses I have seen while waiting to cross there, somtimes granted the road looks clear and a bus or taxi roar up from nowhere. hope the person involved is going to make a full recovery..

I've seen a couple of actual incidents and many near misses down on the crossing on Fitzallen Square to Haymarket. However, the only reason is impatience. You'll probably find that the crossing had a 'red man' indicating that it might not be safe yet. The buses don't roar out of nowhere, they come round the Castle Square tram stop from Arundel Gate. If in doubt, you could just wait for the green man!

For some reason peoples road sense seams to go out of the window around the markets area.I posted a topic over a year ago about a mother pushing her pram into the road outside Primark with out looking as she was also on her Mobile phone, and that i had to slam the brakes on to avoid her.

Hope the pedestrian and Driver are ok.

Maybe they need automatic barriers.

Thats why they have that little thing called a crossing and if you wait for the green man you got a good chance of crossing without being hit by a bus or taxi.

Its simple to use my three year old can teach people though.

You walk up to the crossing - stop and press the button - wait for the red man (it means wait) to change to a green man (it means cross) when it changes to a green man walk across the road....

I agree on that Jubby it's simple really people get themselves knocked down every other day on the crossing at Commercial St.
But it comes to something when First have to put instructions on their website titled 'How to catch a bus'

It happens on the top of the moor as well, used to happen near top of fargate before they took the crossings out now its just lemmingsville at the top of the moor.

Someone told me the accident last week on arundel gate was caused by the same thing someone just walking out on red man thinking the truck would stop on a hairpin.

..............having first checked that traffic is stopping - or has stopped - because some driver might not have noticed the red light through stupidity, or being a joy rider, or an emergency vehicle without its siren on.

Pedestrians should always treat drivers as idiots before venturing onto the road.

yep! when i was at school i had to cross a pelican crossing every morning on my way to schoola and every eveingin on my way home and quite often after the little man when green cars still went through! thankfully though i dont think there was ever an accident.

and as with the zebras in firth park! i always wait untill the cars have completely stopped before pushing my lil girl in her pushchair out into the road, many a time ive seen people who think coz its a zebra crossing they can just walk straight out in front of cars!

they shud have at crossings those barriers what they have on railway crossings to stop the cars!
