I am trying to burn a cd (From 1 cd to another) but for some reason when the burn starts it gets too 3% and then all freezes and forces me to re-boot...is there another way to copy this cd...? I know I can burn binaries but any other kind of data seems to crash...I also have no problem with Mp3's and Jpg's...so what the hell is going wrong....can I create a binary from the cd...?

Cheers in advance, in much needed & urgent help...

Are you using two drives to copy directly?
Probably your buffer is overloading.

2 possibilities:
- reduce the speed (4x, 8x, 16x etc.) as much as possible.
- copy the whole CD onto your Hard Disc first and then burn from there to your new CD.

Yeah, the used read buffer does read 100% but unfortunately I have no idea what this is all about so I guess I should hope for the best and try again...anything else I can do to reduce the risk of it happening again...?

Why hope for the best???

Why not follow my suggestions, one of which has been repeated by someone else????

Use Windows Explorer to copy the CD to a folder/file on your Hard Disc.

Then use "Make Data Disc" to copy the stuff across.

I'm assumimg that it is files, not music.

CloneCD is a nice application for this sort of thing, handles music and data cds quite simply.

Damn, another wasted cd....ran it @ x2 and it still crashed @ 4%....could the speed of my cpu have an effect on the outcome here or has that got nothing to do with it...?

Copy the CD to your hard drive and then just do a trial burn.

for all the people saying copy the disk to your hdd, its not always that easy.

in nero you can choose to do this, but if you were to select all and copy depending on the type of data stored the copy you make may not function. (music cd's for example)

Nah, the CD i'm copying from works perfect, I just wanna make a copy for a mate....it must be either down to my CPU (400Mhz PII) or my cd-rw is bonk... Lite on LTR 12101B...

Oh well, gettin a new pc tomoz so try again then...if not then it's the cd-rw...

cheers 4 all the help guys
