Expect some violent scenes in the hat department of Cole Brothers, especially if I'm there.

I hope they all chose to have their stag and stag & hen and hen parties in Sheffield too!!

It will be great entertainment!!

Maybe Sheffield will open a 'funny girls' bar like the one in Blackpool!!!

Gays and lesbians can't legally get married. They will though be able to make a legal commitment to each other from December this year, under new legislation.

My partner and I have been talking about whether we wish to go through a commitment ceremony at the Town Hall. We've been together nearly 10 years, and have kinda got used to the way we live. But now that we have a new option, we'll look into this in a bit more detail.

Can I be a bridesmaid babe? I can supply my own peach taffeta frock! :D

In all seriousness, this has been discussed before at length here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27525&highlight=gay+marriage).

Perhaps this should be merged mods?

If all you do is go to the town hall and sign a legal document, then I'm all for it, you can go for a pint and a meal afterwards, but I'm not up for all the fannying about that a pseudo-wedding would involve.

I really and truly have no strong opinions on Gay "marriages". In fact I think Gay people ought to have the same rights as everyone else.
Two things to bear in mind though.
I think other long-term relationships , brother and sister , two friends living a non-sexual life and all the others you can think of , ought also to have equal rights. I'm not really too sure how the law stands now but a few years ago , I read where brothers and sisters or two sisters , for example would end up with less rights than people who were in an official Gay relationship and that's not fair , if it's true.
There'll be the usual "for" and "against" hysteria , I suppose about Gay partnerships but I find people going on about their "wonderful" partners as boring as people going on about their straight partners["Do you know , he's taken me to Cleethorpes every year since 1958. A wonderful man "]
What people really ought to be getting hysterical about is how the Council manage to find the time and energy to get involved in all this , so quickly , when the "bread and butter" things , like transport , in the city are going down the Swanee.
No doubt it wont be long before we can rejoice in being the "Gay Capital of Europe " whilst we stand in the pouring rain waiting for a bus.

I suppose that as the fist city to do this we will get a lot of visitors, they will spend money while they are here, so it could boost the economy a bit.

It's the fannying about that whets my appetite here. I think I'm going to train to become a professional photographer specialising in Lesbian Weddings and, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, honeymoons.

Yours pervertedly, Ousetunes.
