I have asked my little brother if he would like to do one of the readings at our wedding in August and he has said yes, but I don't want to give him something too soppy to read. The OH isn't too sure about the winnie the poo reading and thinks the Dr Suess - Oh the places you'll go is too long. Can anyone suggest any other possibel readings that would be suitable for a 14 year old boy at all??? I just can't seem to find any that don't go on about love all the way through! :help:

Hi There is a poem by a guy called John Cooper Clarke that i read at my friends wedding. It's very light hearted and the first line got a a giggle......it goes like this.

I wanna be your vacuum cleaner
breathing in your dust
I wanna be your Ford Cortina
I will never rust
If you like your coffee hot
let me be your coffee pot
You call the shots
I wanna be yours

I wanna be your raincoat
for those frequent rainy days
I wanna be your dreamboat
when you want to sail away
Let me be your teddy bear
take me with you anywhere
I don’t care
I wanna be yours

I wanna be your electric meter
I will not run out
I wanna be the electric heater
you’ll get cold without
I wanna be your setting lotion
hold your hair in deep devotion
Deep as the deep Atlantic ocean
that’s how deep is my devotion

My OH really likes that one SMK79, he thinks it is funny. My only worry is that it is in the first person, would that not be a bit strange a 14 year saying "I wanna be..." etc. OH thinks I am being a little crazy (and he is probably right!), I think it is all the stress!!!

I would love to think that we could come up with something ourselves that was witty and fun... but neither of us are creative or imaginative enough :|

I think you are stressing - you do look too deeply into things when you're worrying about something. You could always changes the I's to he's!

I suggested that but the OH didn't like it... I think he's just as fussy as me... probably why we are getting married! :)

try looking through the works of Ogden Nash or Ezra Pound. both light hearted, well written and something a 14 year old may enjoy reading to the assembled

Thanks for all the replies, I have managed to sell the Dr Suess one to the OH, but have had to shorten it by taking a few verses out. I just hope my brother likes it.

I found the following to be read by a young boy of the same age...appropriate but also not stuffy!!!

Getting married means you'll have
Someone's hand to hold,
Even when you're feeling sick,
Even when you're old.
It means when you sit down to eat,
Someone will be there,
So you won't have to tell your day
To an empty chair.

It means that you can have some kids
Just like a mom and dad,
And play with them all afternoon,
Except when they are bad.
It means that when you need some help,
Someone will help out,
Someone always near to you
So you won't have to shout.

But best of all is when it's time
To turn out all the lights:
You won't have to be alone
Those long and scary nights.
So even though you don't have toys,
You don't have to care:
Now you're married you can still be
Each other's teddy bear!

That's a really nice one Liose, thank you. I think it would definitely be appropriate for a young boy to read, especially with the mention of toys.

My 5 year Old is reading Carolyn Carty's Footprints, I love it & It's so sweet:

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The Lord replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.

This poem can mean a lot of different things dependant as to how you interprate it, to me it symbolises support for each other & togetherness even when you're not together.

There is actuall 3 versions of this poem if you google it I prefer this version.
