The next step towards completing Heart of the City was taken today, with planning permission granted in principle for development on land between Arundel Gate, Norfolk Street and Charles Street in Sheffield City Centre.
Outline planning permission has been granted for the rest of the St Paul’s Place development - two further office blocks, apartments, a multi storey car park, a health and fitness club and a landscaped square. New pedestrian routes from Heart of the City to Howard Street will also be created as part of the development. The land includes the site of the former Egg Box, the Registry Office, several short stay car parks and the Yorkshire Grey pub. The site area is 1.2 hectares.
St Paul’s Place is the commercial part of the Heart of the City development - a £130 million regeneration project in the City Centre. The public elements of the scheme, funded by the Millennium Commission, include the Peace Gardens, the Millennium Galleries, Town Hall Square, Hallam Square, the Winter Garden and Millennium Place.
Detailed designs of all the proposals for this site will be put forward by the developers, CTP St James, in due course, for full planning permission.
Cllr Peter Price, Chair of the City Centre and East Planning and Highways Board said: “This is an important step towards completing Heart of the City – Sheffield’s flagship regeneration scheme.”
