Hi,

I'm currently producing a medieval themed banquet for a client.

They have asked for some gifts for their guests that fit the theme.

I'm struggling for ideas.

Anyone got any ideas for me?

Thanks

Mike

For ideas on the food you should contact the Knights in Battle group who cook authentic grub at historical re-enactments, and pretty impressive it is, too.

I'll put my serious hat back on. Some are a bit tacky but it may give you a few lines to concentrate on:

Gifts? Keep it local. Don Alexander's Made in Sheffield shop will steer you towards Sheffield made pewter tankards.

Jester hats, you could probably pick them up on ebay. In fact, try ebay and type in medieval and see what it springs up. You'll find some gifts there!

I Suppose it deoends on your clients and budgets but caly pipes must be pretty cost effective fort he men or a pewter tankard if finance is not a problem, the ladies could be an embroided hanky or again a goblet ??

Involved with one recently in notingham where vips got a large tankard and bottle of scotch and the menials jsut got a minature whiskey and a glass in a presentastion casre made to look like an old thing, was a good event though, big company wasted shed loads of money on entertianments, didnt argue took the money.

What you get will depend on the amount of money allocated to each person, you could have a some thing like a chalice, or have a look at the gifts at the royal armories, they have lots of stuff from silly games to tiny and huge suits of armour.
good luck :)

Don't forget the music, plenty of harpsichord, zither, crumhorns, bassoons etc. Or you could put on a Steeleye Span CD.

You can get mead from Morrisons in 75 cl bottles for about 3 quid.

When I worked at Coombe Abbey, at their med banguets, they served:

Roast chicken pieces, Legs/breasts

Gravy made from instant powder and red wine (yummy)

Baked potatoes severd on wooden plates

Plenty of mead
