When the rules of a lake/pond/fishery say "barbless hooks" does that mean lures are banned?

View Full Version : Barbless hooks when fishing Al88 28-05-2008, 20:17 When the rules of a lake/pond/fishery say "barbless hooks" does that mean lures are banned? Al tomo170 02-06-2008, 23:06 probably not --- just get barbless lures, or phone the fishery to make sure, they are usually very helpful, tight lines, Tomo the peggsta 04-06-2008, 14:40 Why where tha going and what tha fishing for.I cant answer your question but i do enjoy lure fishing for pike but dont know many places to go. Al88 04-06-2008, 15:09 Well basically mate, ive tried various places for pike and perch, Damflask, Tinsley canal and Rivelin pond, but not had any luck, I was just thinking of trying somewhere like wire mill dam for perch. I reckon its a combination that ive not had enough experience and its not particularly warm atm. the peggsta 04-06-2008, 15:32 You tried all the same places as me with about same luck.Canal can produce good pike dead baiting but its not the same is it fella and may be to warm now anyway.Have you tried ully res, never actually caught there but had plenty of follows from pike around 25pound and seen plenty of big perch. good luck. tomo170 17-06-2008, 23:02 Some nice pike in crookes valley park and perch (I got a decent perch on luncheon meat) Try around the small bottle neck end had a few following my catches in and attacking them. Aint never tried lure fishing but one day I will (probably make a pigs ear of it too lol) good luck and tight lines alex3659 18-06-2008, 10:21 also try pebbley killamarsh Pegasus 18-06-2008, 13:27 When the rules of a lake/pond/fishery say "barbless hooks" does that mean lures are banned? Al It just means that you have to fish with barbless hooks on your lures. However, if its a commercial private fishery then I would doubt that they would stock the sort of fish you can catch on a lure (Chub excepted). The only places I would try are our local reservoirs Damflask etc. Pegasus 18-06-2008, 13:34 Well basically mate, ive tried various places for pike and perch, Damflask, Tinsley canal and Rivelin pond, but not had any luck, I was just thinking of trying somewhere like wire mill dam for perch. I reckon its a combination that ive not had enough experience and its not particularly warm atm. Now its more warmer both Pike and Perch are more active and will take a lure. If you've been in the winter or colder months then you would be more successfull using dead baits. All of the venues you have mentioned; you need to do some homework as the Pike tend to feed on different baits in different areas of the venue at different times of year. Grubshifter 20-10-2008, 02:32 Try just about anywhere on the River Don its got a lot of Pike in it. bezdan 05-11-2008, 11:56 underbank is my favourite spinning lake.however damflask is better dead bait water YatelyYaHoo 05-11-2008, 15:25 Whats the true size of the pike in Dam? Heard a lot of stories of 40lb+ being caught, but never seen any pics. Also does Dam hold many trout? Because this could effect the growth, i've done a couple of sessions on resevours that are trout fishing only, but one month a year they open it to pike anglers(from a boat only) and the size of the pike being caught are well into the 20lb-35lb range. What other species does it hold? Any decent Cats or Carp? Pegasus 05-11-2008, 16:45 Whats the true size of the pike in Dam? Heard a lot of stories of 40lb+ being caught, but never seen any pics.
