I had this weird dream last night that i had a wake before my funeral, i must have known i was going to die soon. But it was nice having friends and family around having this huge party to celebrate me and my life.
I was just wondering what people would think about this? having your wake before you actually pass away? I personally think its quite a good idea then you get to share the remainder of your life with the people you love the most and have a good time while you are still around.
So guys, I wanna know what you all think about this!

Sounds like you saw heartless on the TV with Angus Deaton, the other night, where the granny did exactly this.
I hear that the original idea of a wedding reception was for the friends and family and not the actual married couple, but these days people are so selfish they want to be there too incase they miss something interesting.
I would have thought that the original idea of the wake was that the dead person was with the living in spirit for 24 hours after the funeral. Only if you are afraid of death would you be too afraid to miss out.
In my opinion at the moment, someone who was young and suffering a terminal condition would probably be justified in having a pre-death wake, but not an old person.
Excellent idea!
Allows things to be said that need saying, gets rid of the possibility of people dying with unfinished personal business - gotta be worth doing!

I saw a living wake in Australia.
Old man with cancer, founder member of a New South Wales Rugby club.
He had lost his hair and walked with 2 sticks and was dying.
They gave speaches are had lots of laughs, lots of tanned strong young players, in shorts.
And when it was time for him to go back to the Hospice, They stood in two rows and clapped and sang swing low sweet chariot as he staggered out.

Sounds like a great idea to me. All sorts of stuff could be sorted out. Including the music at the funeral ( see other thread)
