Good news everyone,

Midland Mainline are introducing an Alton Towers day out from Sheffield from Thursday 7th May, which includes train to Derby (09:27), coach transfer to the park and admission. It will run Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Hasnt this service always been running? Im sure i enquired about it last summer to go as an end of school thing....

Cant remember ticket prices tho...

I looked at the site but the only two stations are St.pancras and Leicester. Doesn't mention Sheffield but maybe they won't til it's available? The prices for Leicester start at £35, so about Sheffield, are we closer or further away? (Apologies for the lack of geography, I have no clue!)

Prices from Sheffield are the same as from Leicester:

Booked by 6pm day before: £37 Standard class, £41 First class
Booked 7 days or more in advance: £29 Standard class, £37 First class.

Sheffield to Alton Towers Mon/Thu/Fri/Sat

Train Departs Sheffield 09:27
Train Arrives Derby 10:05
Coach Departs Derby 10:15
Coach Arrives Alton Towers 11:00

Alton Towers to Sheffield Mon/Thu/Fr*

Coach Departs Alton Towers 17:45
Coach Arrives Derby 18:30
Train Departs Derby 18:55
Train Arrives Sheffield 19:31

Alton Towers to Sheffield Saturdays*

Coach Departs Alton Towers 18:15
Coach Arrives Derby 19:00
Train Departs Derby 19:31
Train Arrives Sheffield 20:08

* return times will be revised from 13th June. There will also be a later return service at 20:00 on the firework nights in October.

Oh, forgot the discounts bit:

Children aged 5-15 : £5 discount
Young persons railcard holders : 10% discount
Groups of 10 or more : 10% discount.

You are probably thinking of the package Central Trains do, where you travel to Uttoxeter by train then get the local Firstbus 32A service to Alton Towers.

Midland Mainline don't do a Day Out for Alton Towers from Sheffield just from down south. They do a London Day Out from Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derby.

The reason for this is the coach transfer is from Derby. It would be best going into the transport interchange and seeing what excursions they are doing via a coach company. It will be cheaper and direct as you have to do part of the journey by coach anyway. Be it from derby or uttox.
