View Full Version : A little positivity about clubbing this weekend
discodown 27-05-2008, 16:54 Although i'm usually not too positive about the clubbing scene in our fair city it does seem to me there was an awful lot of choice this weekend. Off the top of my head I can think of quite a few events that were happening round the city with Sasha at plug the most high profile.
Is clubbing healthy in the city at the moment and its the nature of clubbing thats changed or do we still have some way to go?
Personally I think the clubbing scene has really picked up recently. There's obviously the opening of the Carling Academy, but it's more the nights that are on which are having an effect. I'm into my house (preferably progressive, but anything goes really) and there's a whole wealth of nights for me to choose from...
discodown 27-05-2008, 19:45 Indeed, theres lots of little undergroundish nights on but still not much that really excites me
^^P.S. That wasn't meant as a dig, just interested.
discodown 28-05-2008, 16:44 What would excite you?Cheeky!
To be honest i'm not sure, Sheffield is crying out for some new venues and some fresh DJing talent It would be nice if we had a weekly night that wasn't the same week in week out with a variety of different DJ's.
To be honest i'm not sure what I want, just something with a little integrity thats about the music rather than anything else
die 2B loco 29-05-2008, 21:57 I dont mean to hijack the thread but the daytime events that we have been putting on at RISE (fka BRB) have been extremely promising! Its good and reassuring to know that there are plenty of people out there who are up for getting on it on a Sunday afternoon...
If you want to see some pics of the last two events just try searching Mango Terrace Sessions on facebook...
But yeah I know what you mean there are quite a few new things popping up, its just whether clubbers are willing and brave enough to get out there and discover new nights and sounds...
discodown 30-05-2008, 17:19 Are they every sunday or just bank holidays?
Its a shame that clubbers aren't as open minded as they used to be and its a shame that some of the best DJ's in town don't get to play in the best venues but what can you do? Thats sheffield

Thats the problem i have with my friends they are reluctant (sp?) to try new places and stick to the tried & tested stuff, so annoying.

die 2B loco 29-06-2008, 17:57 Sorry about the late reply...
At the minute or at least for this year anyway, we are only going to operate on the 3 Summer Bank Holidays... the two in May were excellent and we have something extra special lined up for the one in August; we might even do an end of Summer closing party!!!
We feel that if we have one every Sunday or even every month it may not be too busy as the market isnt quite there yet (especially in Summer with no students around), but who knows next year might be different.
We want every Mango Terrace event to be special, thats why we've kept it down to just the Bank Hols.
We've tried lots of different venues and lots of different angles, I guess some people in Sheffield just dont know whats good for them. For those that do, we embrace them with open arms as we rave!!
die 2B loco 29-06-2008, 17:58 Oh and we at Cargo are currently working on something that might 'excite you'... (seperate from Mango events)
