View Full Version : Brannigans and old Club Wow; updates required.
wonder23 25-09-2003, 06:59 PM Hi
Just wondered if anybody had heard the rumours about Brannigans closing after Christmas? I heard it from a barman in my local pub and wondered if it was true?
c_datexpress 25-09-2003, 07:00 PM I heard that Club Wow was going to become a casino - but as for Brannigans I couldn't tell you. I don't really think either will be missed will they?!
tinajones 25-09-2003, 07:06 PM why have you posted this thread twice my dear?
tinajones 25-09-2003, 07:08 PM OI! MODS! GERRIT MOVED!
PRONTO!
SKIDADDLE!
is my 30secs over yet?
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:08 PM an honest mistake, sometimes I accidentaly do that as well!
tinajones 25-09-2003, 07:09 PM i heard they were turning that whole area into a themed skyscraper skyline entertainment area with bungee jumping and suicide areas.
wonder23 25-09-2003, 07:09 PM Posted the message twice cos I thought the first hadn't sent! sorry!
Club Wow certainly isn't missed.
I heard the Casino rumours aswell and wondered about Brannigans because they surely can't survive on their own!
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:11 PM was that sarcastic comment for me because I am now oficially offended.

sorry. most of my posts are pretty tongue en cheek. i'm not really into those smiley things people put up - maybe i should be.
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:16 PM its all right, but im just a bit sensitive when it comes to my skyscrapers.
tinajones 25-09-2003, 07:20 PM come on i cudda said worse, but this form is pretty tame so i left the world trade centre jokes out.
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:21 PM yes please, whatever you do dont bring that up. I lost many friends and a lot of family in that.

Yup Tina none of them please eh Hun ?
tinajones 25-09-2003, 07:26 PM well may i make a kind suggestion? take the 'high rise is power' bit off your sig - or its gonna come up again. don't make me have to explain why.
we don't like upsetting people for real.
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:29 PM I would if I knew how!

don't know if brannigans is closing, have been once and to 'club wow' when they first opened, thought they were dire. is wow shut now?
Manhattanman 25-09-2003, 07:39 PM thanks! although I might forget from time to time!

Don't go in pubs !!!
alchresearch 25-09-2003, 08:47 PM Anyway, isn't Brannigans grossly overpriced and generally crap? You don't get much change from a fiver for a bottle of beer.
mikey 26-09-2003, 11:30 AM Back on topic - Brannigans
I think Brannigans have been stuggling, I saw the Brannignans in Stoke close last Xmas, they sold all inclusive tickets(as much booze as you like) for xmas and new years eve, around about £20 and then it closed down before xmas came around.
Beware, I can see it happening again.
1Man&hisBMW 26-09-2003, 02:43 PM Just aswell if it does close down - I think they should make it into a multi-storey car park and the same with club Wow - I think am possessed by this, the ghost of Sheffield Council!
1Man&HisBMW
Lickszz 26-09-2003, 03:44 PM Not that I ever visit it but I will still be sad to see it go.
wonder23 02-10-2003, 03:10 PM I know not many will miss it but its true that Brannigans will be closing after Christmas!! Heard it from the management themselves.
Nutronic 03-10-2003, 12:24 AM Good!:D
About time they stamped out underage sex and under age drinking in Sheffield, i thought it ended with Europa but carried on to Brannigans.
Classic Rock 03-10-2003, 03:01 PM Horrendous place. I went there last month for a hen party. Lots of very small men (not much more than five and a half feet) and ugly women kissing them randomly in passing. Cringeworthy 80s music. They played 'Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi' - one of the worst commericalised rock songs of the 80s and everyone went mad. I went to the bar.....
I wonder what'll happen to the place and all the fixtures and fittings. They have a decent lighting rig there.

They'll just go somewhere else!

good point.
maybe someone ought to lower both ages of consent. That'd stamp it out.

Or get places to act more responsibly. I'm rubbish at guessing ages but even I can see when there are 14 year old girls in a pub or club.
Well done parents, why not subscribe your kids to some paedophile chatrooms while you're at it?
Mongoose 06-10-2003, 07:25 PM They played 'Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi' - one of the worst commericalised rock songs of the 80s and everyone went mad. I went to the bar.....

Definately not. :o
funkyukgal 05-12-2004, 07:34 AM Does anyone go in there anymore?
I know they do a free bar until a certain time early evening...seen the adverts in UGC cinema! i do feel sorry for them but at least they get some of the bowling/restaurant/cinema crowd on the weekend...
what week nights are they open?
Going bowling on wednesday..thinking of popping in hehe.. if not then town it is...

i believe wed nights is dedicated pop and crisp night!!
recomendations for wednesday are..........nothing lol
Snakey_B 05-12-2004, 11:28 AM They only open thursday friday and sat nights!
And that free bar is a bit dodgy cos my mate used to work there and they only put like one or two people serving so you have to wait ages for a drink (so you dont actually get to abuse the free bar which makes it pointless in my view!)
funkyukgal 05-12-2004, 04:39 PM its not dodgy at all that is their strategy for free bars is to have less staff on bar so they're not giving away too many drinks away ;)
you can abuse it if you drink REAL fast :D
who did you know that worked there?
PM me if you dont wanna say on here :)
Paul2412 05-04-2005, 09:20 PM Does anyone know whats happening with this lot? Last I heard brannigans was shutting and both that and club wow were going to move to the roxy! Is there any truth in this anyone know?
Doesn't the re-opening of the Roxy rumour appear at least twice a year?
I think the last one was that Kingdom had bought it...
It seems that, alas! The memory of the Dirty Roxy will never be relived...
Did anyone else ever think it strange that it became a church after it shut down? After some of the things I witnessed in there, its practically sacreligious...
fatpiggymc 09-04-2005, 11:43 AM not sure whats happening but there were builders going into wow on monday?
peteblades 10-04-2005, 04:01 PM One of my earliest memories of going out on the lash was getting stuck to the floor in the Roxy!
Any one else have Roxy based memories?

Had to bring this back.
Did they say which Christmas?
Wish it would close ,its an appaling place ,far too much animal print for anyonea liking:bigsmile:
LoopyLou 11-04-2005, 10:23 AM Club wow closed a while back didn;t it ?
Some friends went to centertainment mid week and said the place was really quiet. the cinema and bowling alley were busy, but the rest were virtually empty.
I wouldn't be suprised if brannigans closed eventually and I think the other restaurants must be a bit worried too.
Shame, I think going out for a meal before a gig at the arena, best way to get parked!

 They're STILL playing that song?!?!?! I worked there a few years back and they played it then. I think they play it every night at a specific time!
You know they are struggling when they are doing a free bar on a friday (and saturday?) from 9pm-10pm!
Doormen there are nice tho :)
jules99 11-04-2005, 11:09 PM hip hip horay...my mates made me go in saturday, it was terrible. the highlight of my night was my drunken friend caz breaking the statue. (maybe they will auction everything and i can buy it for her birthday)
PhilMurray 11-04-2005, 11:25 PM i went a year ago it was..............................horrible!
Snakey_B 12-04-2005, 04:55 PM I cant see the resturants being worried becuase when ever ive been in there theyre always busy and ive been in the one places in the middle , all at different times of the day and different days of the week

The reason I fetched this post back was because it was originally started in 2003.
Unfortunately its still open
Guess the management got it wrong:sad:
Would gladly deck animal print and the contents of Elizabeth Duke for a cosing down party
AndyC123 08-05-2005, 02:45 PM Last we heard, Club WOW was being turned into a casino, but they were having trouble with obtaining the license.
Arbuckles has also been gutted but dunno what that is going to be.
scottf 09-05-2005, 09:00 AM That won't be turned into a casino- if they built one there its going to be a HUGE one further u the road!!!
I heard kingdom is about to shut and move to the roxy disco tho!!!
hottotty 09-05-2005, 11:05 AM letz just hope club WOW is shutting down and NOT re-opening ANYWHERE!!!
the fonz 09-05-2005, 11:46 AM nothing is happening to the Roxy, it would cost to much to refurbish. The owners are just sitting on it until land values rise and they think they can get the most value for the land, (hopefully once the E Campus gets going) then they will sell and it will be knocked down and transformed into another new gateway into the city, possibly with escalators, mm nice.
valentine 09-05-2005, 12:16 PM I though Roxy's was going to be transformed into a large shopping arcade, they got planning permission about 3 years ago
Laura2005 11-05-2005, 03:05 PM has anyone been in there recently? whats it like nowadays?
also, does anyone know what it costs to get in there and at what time does it come into effect.
going down to centertainment for my birthday so we might go there since its close.
Thanks peeps
Laura xxx
scottf 11-05-2005, 03:16 PM Its closing down soon - i know that!!!
Laura2005 11-05-2005, 03:17 PM is it? when? why?
scottf 11-05-2005, 03:20 PM I presume because it isn't making enough money, im not sure hen its closing though, you would be better off ringing them and finding out yourself, the number is 01142 431133,
Your best bet is to get a tram into town- it only takes about 10 minutes and drops you off on weststreet :D :D
Litha 11-05-2005, 03:39 PM it was a few years since i last went and swore ide never go again, it was full of old women wearing black tights and white high heels :gag: :gag:
Laura2005 11-05-2005, 07:42 PM yeah it is alwasy full of old women, when i went in there for my 18th it was cool - we won all the champagne off the DJ. thanks for that number!
hmm not sure about that...
Laura2005 12-05-2005, 06:40 AM not sure about what?
JonnH 12-05-2005, 07:54 AM Well, last i knew it was meant to be closing at the beginning of last year   .

You'll not need a coat, it's boiling out there!
I know it was a joke mate.
Cheers
willman 18-08-2005, 02:02 PM can confirm that it is now closed for business.
uncleheed 18-08-2005, 02:22 PM I loved going in Brannigans when it first opened.
Because I am of a certain age,it reminded me of Roxys.
R.I.P Brannigans
csi_bha 18-08-2005, 02:47 PM has the whole chain gone out of business? anyone got a news source on it as to why?
csi_bha 20-08-2005, 08:11 AM anyone got any information?
souldave 20-10-2005, 07:04 PM I may have missed a previous thread but is Brannigans at Centertainment permanently closed. I knew the owners were in some financial trouble and the place had become really garbage but I never heard anything!! (might have been on holiday)

Hope it has closed, it was in the wrong place! should have been in the town centre..maybe they will look at putting one there in their future.
JD
Fudbeer 20-10-2005, 09:34 PM From what I remember in the very early days it was not that bad going for a slightly older age group.
However you are correct in recent years it was complete GARBAGE.
Pilon 20-10-2005, 10:25 PM I thought all of them had shut down - the entire chain?
bjshooter 21-10-2005, 12:16 AM There used to be four clubs out there (Brannigans, Pulse, Vogue and wow) but they have droped like flys it was too far out alright when you had a choice but nobody is going to go all that way just for brannigans
ANVIL 21-10-2005, 09:00 AM I went to Brannigans just the once, about 4 years ago perhaps. Personally i thought that it made Roxy's seem classy...:D
SallyLaLaLa 21-10-2005, 12:53 PM I had a drink next door in Old Orleans just after Brannigans shut down. An ex staff member was in there and he said it shut down with no notice. Apparently the owners were in massive finacial problems and took what they could and ran off. I feel pretty sorry for them - you'd have to be pretty desperate to do that.
Is the old Club Wow still empty? I wonder what the plans are for this space?

It's a call centre now I think, for a computer components supply company - name escapes me.

Insight. I think they're in the in the old Pulse and Vogue site. Club Wow is still empty.
DarthOwl 21-10-2005, 02:42 PM I wish Centertainment would shut down altogether.
I hate the place.
Full of 4x4 driving gits avoiding legitimate parking spaces like the plague and letting their 'adorable' brats run around like it's a bloody adventure playground.
Even the cinema's crap since it lost it's THX certificate.
A bit of a geeky reason, but it's the Printworks in Manchester for me now when a big release comes out!
