does anyone on here have border collies?
Rivelin6 27-05-2008, 16:50 I've just adopted a rescued collie cross- if I could work out how to add pictures I would put some up here. Thanks for letting me know about the forum I will look at it with interest.
I have 2 a 12 year old collie x and a 6 month old collie x they're both crazy but i love them both to bits
I have a red :) thanks for the links
Matchstick 28-05-2008, 11:55 I have a Border Collie x with a Jack Russell, and he's loopy.. but I love him to bits :hihi: Thanks for the links will have to have a look.
I've got 2 red tris love red border collies :)
I have just been on one of the rescue sites in first post, (Madsods, Derby) and they have FIVE staffys! Now I know why there are so many posts regarding the breeding of Staffys. I suppose if every rescue centre has this many, then thats going to be a fair few staffys.

I know, yet people still keep breeding and advertising pups for sale don't they.

We photographed the dogs at sheffield city council pound a last week and 9/10 pens had staffies in them, there was at least 15 staffies-probably more like 20.
helenasq 03-06-2008, 19:49 It really is so sad to see such a lovely breed of dog just chucked out like an old pair of trousers:(. People may say that they have a bad reputation but all of the staffies at the pound were as harmless as anything, even the rotties there were extremely gentle-all they wanted was a cuddle:(. It really does make me angry when you see people breeding them purely for profit with no thought whatoever for the dog.
There is a rescue centre in Wales called 'many tears rescue' and they get loads of ex breeding dogs handed into them-purely because they've served their purpose- and all of these are pedigrees:o! I was amazed to see how many cavaliers and weimeranas (excuse the spelling!) were in there, as well as the other popular breeds, obviously the puppy farming dogs:(
manytears do a lot of work often look on there website lots of border collies on there too usually unwanted farm dogs :(
beckelina 17-06-2008, 13:06 We got our first dog from Many Tears over twenty years ago (when it was Last Chance) - she was an unwanted collie cross pup that had been chucked out of a flat.
Sylvia only had a couple of dogs in at a time in those days - looks like things have got a lot busier :-(
Yes theres a lot more puppy farms and back yard breeders around now as dogs seem to sell for so much more money :(
People just need educating on where to buy dogs from.
Anyone else got a border collie?
if anyone wants a link adding let me know :)
Trackdayride 08-01-2009, 04:44 Anyone know of any Border Collie pups available soon?
Been dogless for nearly 2 years now and its time to get another.
I miss the company on my walks and the welcome home when I get in:bigsmile:
looking for a b/w or tri colour border.
recently missed out on a pup from a local farmer, which would have been ideal.
My last dog was a wonderful friend who was a young rescue dog, but would like to start from scrtach with a pup this time.
So if anyone knows of one let me know.
Thanks
Mark
haddockman 08-01-2009, 08:31 We just fostered a border collie cross and he was possibly the nicest dog I've ever met! I'd definately consider one when we're looking for a dog!
sheltiepup 08-01-2009, 08:42 I have just taken on a 12 month Border Collie, who is great in the house, loves my children and other dogs but is a swine outside. He was returned to his breeder for a failed recall, but from my experience his recall is excellent he returns faster than my labrador. His vice is he lunges at other dogs and has the collie nip, his herding instint is so strong. I have a lot of work to do on him. They are a great breed of dog but not one I would recommend for a normal household. Mine is not a normal household..
Trackdayride 08-01-2009, 15:24 My last dog was a collie cross so no problem with managing them. In fact I'm looking forwards to the fun times learning together!
Elizabeth13 08-01-2009, 16:14 i have a 15 yr old border collie x dalmatian
shes absolutely wonderful, and still about 7yrs old at heart and body!

babyboom 09-01-2009, 20:22 I have a border collie we got her on holiday in Devon two years ago and she is the best dog I've ever had. She is very gentle and loves the kids I have read that fluffy/soft coated, brown eyed ones are the most placid and the rougher coated blue eyed ones with prick ears are more hyper.
No its working type that are usually more hyper they can also be fluffy, soft coated with brown eyes, then again i have a show lines border collie and shes bonkers too. Border collies are just a generally hyper breed if they don't have enough to do.

He's gorgeous, what an un-usual mix!
Elizabeth13 12-01-2009, 19:45 SHE is gorgeous :)
Unfortunately she was another abused rescue baby that was dumped on a motorway.
But she's beautiful and a true friends to me.
The only reason we know shes dalmatian definately is from the vet when we first got her.
He/she said that her legs and feet were the give away, she has dalmatian legs hehe.
Aww bless her, how can someone be so cruel as to dump them on the motorway! Theres so many rescues that will take them these days!
Glad shes found a loving home with you :)
Rainrescue 18-01-2009, 16:45 Personally I'm not a collie person myself - I'm far to laid back which is why i go for the slow bull breeds and mastiff's - phew must go and have another sleep thinking about all that herding.
However, we have FLICK with us in rescue - living in a foster home - and having no luck what so ever in finding his rightful home. He is absolutely BEAUTIFUL - so much so you think he's a girl. Tri-coloured and long haired and bouncing with energy.
He has a sad story in that he was dumped in the dog stray kennels - left there for ages, we got him into boarding - which drove him crazy - cos they don't do well in kennels. Rehomed him to a lovely home, but due to personal circumstances - she had to return him a few months later.
Geeraffe came to his rescue to save him going back into kennels which would have drove him nuts again - and there he still is - awaiting him new mum and dad. He plays with his mates and is a lovely loving dog.
If anyone could put him up on any nice collie websites - showing he is up for rehoming - we would be grateful
Pics and info of him here

(ps - i can email anyone a poster with details of our dogs if they could display it somewhere for us)
sheltiepup 18-01-2009, 19:21 I have met Flick and can confirm what a nice calm collie he is. He was great with other dogs and my little girl, he would do really well in a family home
geerarffe 18-01-2009, 22:11 Flicks foster mum here.
Not much more I can say that's not on the site already. He's a total peoples dog and adores human company.
Here are some pictures of the wonderful Flick. Ignore my 2 muppets. :hihi:

Aww he's gorgeous i'll do him a post on border collie world :) feel free to join the forum and add more details yourself. I've just taken on a foster dog that originally came from Sheffield pound.
Elizabeth13 19-01-2009, 21:48 I really, really do like Flick. A lot.
But i am at uni and i dont know what my hours will be like on placements,
and if i get a part time job whilst i'm at uni i dont know how much time he'd be in the house.
Yes border collies take up lots of time not ideal for a busy uni life. I'm sure one day you'll be in the posision to offer a lovely dog a home though :)
Elizabeth13 20-01-2009, 17:55 I will. Plus my old border collie x is still alive
i'm not sure she'd be so happy with me replacing her!!
Trackdayride 21-01-2009, 17:09 here's Jake.. 7 week old border from a local working farm. Lots of growing up to do and lots of fun to be had learning and forging a lifetime friendship.
I saw his father who is brown and white, his mother a classic black and white, both border collies.
Allthough he has no pedigree papers, that's not important to me, both parents are healthy, fit working dogs. He spent the first weeks of his life in a pen in the barn, so the house has been a wonder of discovery today.. :)
Booked him in for his innoculations at just over 8 weeks old.

Elizabeth13 20-02-2010, 00:38 Well, you may remember me and my best friend Lady from before.
Im sad to report unfortunately she has now passed over, as we had to get the vet out to her last tuesday (16th). She had kidney damage and was told at the beginning of Dec she would have days to live, if that. But alas, our lovely Lady stayed with us 2 more months! She did not suffer at all, but the previous two nights had one fit and stopped recognising us and getting confused in the night - walking around and into things.
(Probably due to the toxcin levels in her blood that her kidneys could not remove). She was perfectly fine during the day, but we did not want her to suffer at all and believed this would be better than her having another fit during the night alone and passing that way.
Surprisingly, she greeted the vet at the door (she never used to!) and went straight into her bed to get comfy. Perhaps she knew it was time and was grateful.
