Were you going to be doing this as a mobile car valeting business?

£7k seems like an awful lot of squeegees and traffic light air fresheners though.

Seriously, why the huge start up costs?

What the hell has the S10 post code gotta do with owt...? I'm proper skint and all my neighbours are evidently alot worse off than me...lol

Princes trust should think themselves lucky, if someone from pitsmoor had applied then it would all go on crack n smack...

It would be worth checking Exchange & Mart or similar to see if anyone is selling kit, perhaps getting out of valeting and selling up? You might find a bargain.

For several different reasons the council (or were required to) define areas that suffer a greater level of "deprivation" than others. The definitions use unemployment figures, household incomes, benefits claimed, education etc.

These areas are delineated on maps and if you are on the right side of the line, you are "in". If you are on the wrong side of the corner, "tough luck".

Another forum member described the same problem in not having access to SureStart facilities.

You can look at the current council's policy of "closing the gap".

It can be praised in some ways but does create a lot of unjustifiable refusals of assistance.

I am guessing that Diesel's failed application has fallen foul of something similar to this.

No-one can start a business with no capital investment. Every new business requires cash putting into it, and why should it be somone elses?

Go to Business Link or somewhere and get some advice.

However a suggestion -

Start off with lower expectations - van (and tart it up) 2-3k or even less, power washer about £150, Vax machine £100(?), steam cleaner£??

Remember, don't run before you can walk.

Me too!!

Look on auto trader, £1500 will buy you a more than decent van. The other stuff try ebay or something like that, i bet you can get them all cheaper than you think. If running your own business was easy everyone would do it. I'd say spend the bare minimum on decent gear so you can do a good job and spend the rest on getting out there and getting some work!

I agree with diesel it is totally unfair, everyone should have access to funding regardless of their PC on the merits of the business proposal. In fact it is probably harder to get started if living in 'nice' PC as higher housing costs etc. Trouble with this system is we don't encourage enterprise yet spend £££ on people that have really no interest but join a scheme because of a handout as they are in a 'deprived' area.

I'm always up for new business ideas so PM with details if like

Have you considered getting a job and saving some money up?

I have just left a job ( working for jobcentre plus). I left on health grounds.
I hardly had a penny left by the end of the month and my salary was quite good. It would take me a long while to save a few thousands.
