My lil tabby boy, i think, has fleas. Only problem is he HATES being handled and "trapped" and will willingly draw blood! I used to have to distract him with the bathroom tap dripping while he sat in the sink(!) but since i done my bathroom, we can't do that. I've tried to Put the drops on him once on the back of his neck but it took me about an hr and that's no exaggeration:hihi::roll:

Any tips??

get someone he trusts to snuggle him and gradually 'wrap' him in a cloth, towel, sheet, making sure all four paws are securely bound against his body ... they'd better be wearing body armour or something similar.

You, wearing leather welder's gauntlets, approach with soft words and flattery, concealing the Frontline behind your back, and swiftly apply it to the nape of the neck ... simple!!! It has to work the first time, cos you will NOT get another chance to work the confidence trick.

:hihi:

I use a liquid flea spray and I found that the best way to use it is to cover your hands in it then rub the cat all over as quickly as possible.

At first he thinks Im fussing him and he loves it- until he realises its flea spray and then the games up so I have to be fast.

It might work for you too.

I am not sure if there is such a thing but there is the stuff that you put in the food for dogs "programe" perhaps someone will know if they make it for cats too.

Program is licensed for cats, but it's not an immediate killer of fleas in the same way that Advocate, Stronghold or Frontline are.

Personally I'd get the 'really fast ram raid' perfected. I've used it to great effect on my hand reared feral Baby, to whom I can give pills too (and you need to worm him if he's got fleas).

My technique is thus:

One worming pill ready and out of packet, one Frontline pipette ready, opened and propped up somewhere readily accessible. One unsuspecting cat shut into a room with you (ideally somewhere that they can't dart into or under things- the bathroom is good).

Pick up cat and immediately tilt their head backwards fast enough that they can't get you too badly by biting (and they don't really have time to scratch you- I kid you not). Hold their weight in the hand that's holding their skull tilted backwards. With your other hand pick up pill, open their jaw and use your middle finger to push the pill down the back of their throat.

Then (immediately) get the drops on the back of their neck and drop furry, retreat to safe distance and count the bloody bits.

If you get into practice with it you can get the whole thing done in approximately 2 seconds, during which time the cat is a bit nonplussed and generally hasn't had time to work up a big pile of panic.

Follow with some tuna or other treat of your choice.

Yea I'd definately agree - great advice! It's such a tough job!

My hubby has to get our cat in the porch and spray him. I think, as above, the faster you do it the better - and try not to make it a big deal - then they'll try and get used to it!
