Anyway thats enough about Hatton. mholey 30-05-2008, 16:17 You didnt miss much, just a washed up fighter past his prime that was hand picked. Anyway thats enough about Hatton. Hang on, you just inferred that Lazcano handpicked Hatton? Hatton is still the #1 at 140lbs in the world. Baz1 30-05-2008, 17:01 He may still be a No1 in some eyes but serious reporters are beginning to question whether hatton still has the guts and desire left to get back a major title and hold it. Lets be honest, the next guy in line to fight him is this Paulie M (who holds the IBF) and is being 'picked' out as an easy opponent (especially as he struggled himself on the undercard last week). As Colin Hart (of the Sun) said: The Hatton who beat Kostya Tszyu is gone. mholey 30-05-2008, 17:21 He may still be a No1 in some eyes but serious reporters are beginning to question whether hatton still has the guts and desire left to get back a major title and hold it. At this moment there probably isn't and it is why Hatton came back down to this weight (he surely cannot hack it above this)- so from that angle, he could still pull his weight , so to speak. But he is no way the fighter he was, gets caught alot more now and does not have that spring in his step. Looking at the 1401b rankings below (with the IBF champion being Paul Malignaggi ) I do not see anyone that really stands out. But I also think Hatton will struggle against a harder puncher- he is not agile as he was and one good shot is all it takes. Hatton is not known to be a hard hitter (saying that, neither was Mayweather)... WBA : Andreas Kotelnik Germany WBC : Timothy Bradley. WBO : Riccardo Torres 1 NOT RATED 2 Juan Urango Colombia 3 Herman Ngoudjo Canada 4 Lovemore N'dou Australia 5 Souleman M'Baye France 6 Ricky Hatton England 7 Randall Baily United States 8 Gavin Rees Wales 9 Vivan Harris United States 10 Francisco Figueroa United States 11 Demetrius Hopkins United States 12 Sergey Sorokin Germany 13 Wilfredo Vilches Argentina 14 Mike Arnoutis United States 15 Lamont Peterson United States mholey 30-05-2008, 19:15 So he is still the best fighter in his weightclass in the world then. End of. Baz1 30-05-2008, 19:21 So he is still the best fighter in his weightclass in the world then. End of. Maybe mholey but my main point was he may not be the 'fighter he once was'. I am a fan of Ricky as he gives value for money and seems a down to earth lad who likes a pint and pies (though not a good thing if you are an athlete of his standard). mholey 30-05-2008, 19:29 I really don't think his last performance was that bad though. He could've boxed his way to a cleaner victory against Lazcano sure. But Ricky is Ricky, and front of 55K at the City ground he went hell for leather for the fans. Yes, he got caught a few times, but his footwork was good, his stamina was superb, he was busy and active as well. It's unfair to say he is shot after one loss, and a points win over Lazcano, who is by no means a great fighter, but he aint no bum. I admit we may never see the Tszyu Ricky again, but I get annoyed at people depreciating the best fighter in the world at his weight cos of a couple on non-blockbuster performances. Baz1 30-05-2008, 19:36 I admit we may never see the Tszyu Ricky again, but I get annoyed at people depreciating the best fighter in the world at his weight cos of a couple on non-blockbuster performances. That's the thing. How long will he go on for? He has taken the defeat to Mayweather with great diffilculty- and is driven to rule the division again. I think he has nothing to really be embarrassed about, he fought the best pound for pound fighter there is. You right in agreeing that the Ricky who fought Tszyu is gone. Personally, I even thought Witter would beat hatton-(if they ever met) just the style of Witter, was made to outbox and outfox the Hitman. Even if Hatton went back to fight Mayweather, the result would be the same- and as we are on the Pretty Boy, I am certain he will beat Oscar again later in the year. mholey 30-05-2008, 19:41 That's the thing. Ricky will never beat Mayweather, they will rematch in 2009, and Floyd will win. However, Cortez destroyed the last fight, and it would have been a lot closer had the ref not cheated. May should beat Oscar again, but you never know with Oscar, he is high class, but I agree Floyd will beat him. I'm nursing a semi in anticipation of the Cotto/Margarito clash, and have fingers crossed on Cotto. The fight I really wanna see is Cotto/Mayweather. I'm sure it will happen provided he overcomes Margarito. Who do you think would win, Cotto or May? Baz1 30-05-2008, 20:02 Ok, Mayweather. Though MW has faced every contender, you get this feeling that Cotto may be avoided. Cotto is incredibly strong and resistant. I could never see MW hurting him but definately see the opposite. I would go for Cotto to win (how is another point but I would bet on a late KO or split decision). AJ sheffield 01-06-2008, 01:28 Ricky is one of the worlds fittest wannabee stand up comedians. mholey 01-06-2008, 04:11 That's also the fight every true fan wants to see, me included. Cotto by descision. Thats IF he gets past Marg, which is no mean feat. What if Margarito does beat Cotto, will he ever get Mayweather? I'd doubt Mayweather would fight him personally. Baz1 07-06-2008, 11:24 If reports are to be believed (sky sports ) then Hatton may not ever be getting that rematch with Mayweather- as he(pretty Boy) has apparently announced his retirement.. Says he has lost the interest now, motivation is gone (I guess that is to train as hard as boxers have to).. as well as the fact he has won 6 titles at 5 different weights so has nothing to prove. Oh yeah, and the fact he still has good looks, and a sharp brain/wit coupled with $100m in the bank... I don't blame him! Good Luck Mayweather- you the MAN. arachnophobe 07-06-2008, 12:10 It's unfortunate that Junior Witter wasn't at his best a couple of weeks ago- Hatton was running out of excuses to avoid him. Now he's got all the excuse he needs, and a great domestic match-up has been lost. mholey 09-06-2008, 08:34 If reports are to be believed (sky sports ) then Hatton may not ever be getting that rematch with Mayweather- as he(pretty Boy) has apparently announced his retirement.. True champions don't leave unfinished business. Cotto would've eaten him, and he wouldn't ever step into the ring with Margarito. Ah well Floyd, you got the cash, but your legacy will be soon forgotten. Baz1 09-06-2008, 14:46 There goes his legacy. True champions don't leave unfinished business. The unbeaten record is intact. I still think he will be tempted by some mega crazy paydays to fight at least one of the above two..if I was him, I would forget Golden Boy Hoya and train like mad for a fight with Margarito or Cotto. mholey 10-06-2008, 15:30 Yes- but why risk losing your legacy? The way I see it is that he will be remebered as someone who retired without fighting the best out there, thats what i meant about his "legacy". Thats my 2 cents anyways. Whether he is actually retired or not remains to be seen though, I just can't see him turning down the mega bucks to never fight again. |
