I've read up, and looked about, but I wondered anyones experiences?

They look like pretty easy to look after pets! and they are beautiful animals!

Its just a thought!
Thanks
Sam

I used to have a few fire bellys in my tropical tank. From what I am aware they like deep water that isnt too warm. The most important thing is to make sure whatever you keep them is has a secure lid as they are pretty good at escaping.

You can get fire bellies from Aqua Hobby in Heeley and they look pretty healthy.
I've had a few, not from aqua hobby, that didn't do too well but they had bacterial infections etc.
You need to work out a dry-to-wet tank for them, and get the PH right.
Their water doesn't need to be heated as far as I know, but the set up in Aqua Hobby is brilliant if you need ideas.

They eat bloodworm and other frozen/live food like that.
If you need anymore info I have quite a lot, so just send a PM :)

wheres aqua hobby? - i got my 4 from pets@home in heeley retail park ages ago, they are in a 15 gallon tank with a large piece of bogwood in the middle and water a cpl of inches deep so they have somewhere dry to land but plenty of place to swim, they have a power filter - fluval 1 and they feed on frozen bloodworms. they are pretty easy to keep, they prefer cool to warm, i do use a heater to maintain water temp as i felt it too cool as theres quite a lot. it is impt however to ensure its not too warm as they are more likely to get sick, fungal infections etc. i really enjoy them.

If I had a pet newt, I'd call it "Tiny" 'cos it would be my newt.

Aqua Hobby is in Heeley, it's right near Heeley City Farm, at the top of a steep hill.
It's pretty close to Pets at Home.
The last time I looked, PAH didn't have any books or even leaflets on caring for newts, even though they sold them as pets :loopy:

This is a good website, the people on here will help you out loads, and you'll learn a lot!
