Cheers for the info, how can I find out more about the service 20 and 20a?
I currently catch the 20 which is every 10 mins and catch it from Norton Lees road which is near derbyshire lane. What I want to know is, what is the 20a? what is changing from the existing 20 service? Am I gonna end up annoyed or pleasantly surprised with a better service to the 20?
Captain_Scarlet 05-04-2005, 11:28 Oh that's cute, for the 10th year running they managed to NOT make any changes to service 97... What will it take I ask... What will it take ?
Basically every alternative 20 will become a 20A and go via Derbyshire Lane instead of Scarsdale Road, with a 20 minute interval service on each route rather than a 10 minute interval on Scarsdale and almost nothing on Derbyshire Lane. It's the old 33 & 34 basically!
Here is how First bus announced this:
---------------------
First Announces New Service For Derbyshire Lane Residents
First, South Yorkshire’s leading bus operator today announced the introduction of a new bus route to serve Derbyshire Lane in South Sheffield.
From April 24 the existing service 20 will be revised to serve both Derbyshire Lane and Warminster Road. The revised service which will operate all week, will provide a daytime frequency on each corridor of 3 buses per hour, maintaining an overall level of service on combined sections of the corridor of every 10 minutes.
Meg Munn MP will officially announce the new service to serve Derbyshire Lane (20a) with Gary Nolan, Managing Director of First in South Yorkshire today at Graves Park.
On the introduction of the new 20a service, Ms Munn said, "I am very pleased that First are increasing the frequency of their service on Derbyshire Lane. Many local people rely upon buses to provide safe and reliable transport and I am sure that residents in the Derbyshire Lane area will be delighted with the more frequent service."
Gary Nolan, Managing Director of First in South Yorkshire added, “We have looked very carefully at our service in this area and believe that by re-distributing buses to serve both Warminster Road and Derbyshire Lane we are providing an overall better level of service for our customers.”

Cheers for the info but I don't get it!
Coming from town: The 20 turns up Derbyshire lane from Chesterfield rd then turns right onto Norton Lees Road then turns right up Warminster Road.
Going into town it does the reverse.
I am not aware that it ever went up or down Scarsdale road.
The service ran every 10 minutes to my stop on Norton Lees Road near the park.
So what is the difference? I don't understand your comments about Derbyshire lane currently getting nothing! It currently gets a bus every 10 mins.
Unless you're talking about a different part of Derbyshire lane?
Sorry for the confusion!
My stop is every 10 mins. In the old days of the 34, it was every 20mins.
What I want to know is, is the 20/20a going to be every 10 mins on the stop on Norton Lees Road before it turns up Warminster? Am I one of those in the combined sections getting it every 10 mins?
Cheers
beansfeast 05-04-2005, 12:26 Hi
I catch the 20 from the same place as you, on Norton Lees Lane, near the top of the park.
From what I can make out the 20a will NOT go along Norton Lees Lane and will instead go all the way along Derbyshire Lane (including the one way bit) and up to Graves Park. (Either that or it will go up Scarsdale Rd - I'm not sure about this bit).
This means buses going along Norton Lees Lane will now run every 20mins, and it will probably be better to walk down to Chesterfield Rd than wait!!
Hope this answers your question Foxxx!
No changes to the 81 or 82 I see... The Jury's still out on whether that's a good thing or not.
Although knowing First, they'd make the 81 even less frequent/reliable than it currently is.. :loopy:

Cheers for the info so basically the bit where first say
we are providing an overall better level of service for our customers.
and
Many local people rely upon buses to provide safe and reliable transport and I am sure that residents in the Derbyshire Lane area will be delighted with the more frequent service.
is total B*ll**ks because it will be less frequent, meaning I as a female will be walking up and down the hill on my own in the dark due to the frequency being lowered.
I knew the every 10 mins was too good to be true.
FIRST you are complete and utter *****
I suppose though if it does go all the way up derbyshire lane, there will be a new stop near the corner of Norton Lees Lane?? That won't be so bad, but if it goes either Norton lees rd route, or scarsdale onto derbyshire lane route, then we are stuffed!
beansfeast 05-04-2005, 12:38 Now come on, lets all be honest... it's never really been 10mins anyway has it!! (Apart from yesterday)... :o
Yesterday I just missed the 20 and so walked down to Chesterfield road, just arrived and a 20 followed me down the hill 2 mins later!!
So today I thought I'll wait at my bus stop since they're so regular.. guess how long I waited... 10? - nah, 15? - nah.... 20 mins! You gotta love 'em!
Fantomas 05-04-2005, 12:42 Yeah, the 20A will go up Chesterfield Road, left up Scarsdale Road and then up Derbyshire Lane, past Graves Park and will rejoin the 20 route at the top of Warminster Road.
I think!
Captain_Scarlet 05-04-2005, 12:51 so basically, after pmi**ing us of by changing 33 & 34 which went up either Scarsdale or Derbyshire, they're now adding a service 20A to serve Scarsdale they deliberatly did not serve when they bo**ocked it up 6 months ago.
I swear, GIVE ME A CAR !
So 20 is going pear shaped, 97 is just as lame as it's always been, 53 goes to the a**e end of town...
Is it possible to actually have a bus to town on one of the city's busiest roads: Chesterfield Road please !
That and the trek that is to get to Totley on the weekend... If only the family lived in Woodhouse, I'd have 5 buses per minute.
Hate them, hate them, hate them !

I'm fed up paying full fare and not having a seat, no i know, let's put more single deckers, that's sure to solve the proiblem !

Why oh why couldn't they have just added a new service to service Scarsdale road and leave the 20 alone!
They changed the 33/34 to the 20 which I didn't realise affected the scarsdale route as I don't go there! And instead of adding a service for the people who live there, they take away half of the 20 (old 34) service which was much improved. So we're back to square one basically.
grumble grumble
Here are the other changes (ie non-First bus) taken from the SYPTE website
55: new TM Travel service links Birley (Birley Lane/Birley Moor Avenue), Frecheville (Birley Moor Road/Linley Lane/Alport Road/Alport Drive/Alport Avenue/Silkstone Road), Hackenthorpe (Dyke Vale Road/Birley Spa Lane/Main Street/Beighton Road), Waterthorpe, Crystal Peaks, Westfield (Westfield Northway/Westland Road), Mosborough (Station Road/High Street/Westfield Crescent/Elm Crescent/Queen Street) & Plumbley. Buses run hourly morning & early afternoon Mon-Sat.
72: changes Mon-Sat. 19:05 Wombwell-Ecclesfield withdrawn. 17:15 Batemoor-Wombwell runs only to Ecclesfield (arrives 18:31).
P1: re-routed from Norwood and through Shirecliffe along Shirecliffe Road, Longley Avenue West & Penrith Road.
P2: re-routed through Shirecliffe to run from Penrith Road along Longley Avenue West & Shirecliffe Road to Norwood.

Ive been told Via the (82 Board) that the service at night is a joke? or could that be the whole service ?
It seems that wasn't quite the final version....
First Works Closely With Local Community To Retain Bus Link
First, South Yorkshire’s leading bus company, is pleased to announce that the link between Base Green and Gleadless will be retained as part of the package of service changes in April.
The 44 & 46 services, which currently provide the link, are being withdrawn in April due to poor demand. First have subsequently worked very closely with Clive Betts MP and other local representatives and can now confirm that the link will now be provided by a half-hourly service numbered 94a from Monday 25 April.
The new 94a service will operate from Birley to Walkley through Base Green and via Seagrave Crescent to Gleadless Townend. The service will then run directly to Manor Top via Ridgeway Road thereby also answering customer requests to restore a direct bus route to the city centre. The service will run Monday to Friday between approximately 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and as an improvement to the existing 44/46 services, 94a customers will now benefit from low-floor, easy access buses.
As part of this change the existing service between Birley and Walkley via Intake will be numbered 94 to create a stronger identity for customers traveling to and from Birley.
Brandon Jones, Commercial Director of First in South Yorkshire commented, “By working closely with local representatives we have been able to reach an amicable solution for customers in Base Green that not only maintains links but also delivers an improved quality of service. I trust residents will value the introduction of this service and we look forward to welcoming them on board later this month.”
