They don't really need to spend too much.

They've got the premiership in the bag with the squad they have got now!

They'll probably invest in a striker methinks....

Well they have one of the worlds best Keepers and a very good reserve.

Defence - They have one of the best back fours around, but they'll buy Ashley Cole if they can

Midfield- Already have Lampard, Duff, Robben, Makelele but will probably want Gerrard if they can get him

Attack - Drogba, Gudjonsen, Kezman so they could probably do with one more.

So in short I reckon they are looking for one world class addition in Defence, Midfield and Attack. So if they can get one of each probably taking about £10m defender, £20m midfielder and £25m attacker if they can get them

i'd go along with that although they'd need to pay more than £20m to bag Gerrard

£12m A Cole
£30m S Gerrard
£22m Adriano

plus £30m in a way that only chelsea can spend it!

so i reckon £94m

It depends how much Gerrard wants to leave though.

But having said that money is not really that much of an object to Chelsea so its probably not worth upsetting people just to try and bring the price down just for a few extra million.

And they might try and buy Beckham just because of the shirt sales, not because he's as good as their current midfield because he's not fit to clean their boots at the moment.

I'd be surprised if Arsenal let Cole go that cheaply. He is considered the best left back in the world by many and there will be other clubs abroad interested in him.

Would Chelsea be interested in Bowyer ? I hear he may be looking for a move come the summer :suspect:

I hope Abramovich does a Jack Walker and pulls the plug/loses interest.

Basically whatever happened to Blackburn after they splashed the cash, won the league, then dissappeared back to where they came from - mid table/league 1 obscurity.

I can't see Chelsea spending more than £30m unless they sign Gerrard (and lets face it, if he's got any ambition he'll go).

I doubt Abramovich will pull out either. Some of his close business associates have been quietly snapping up controlling stakes in Sao Paolo, Feyenoord and a club in the Ukraine. He's getting more of a foothold if anything.

Why is the word "ambition" used to mean going to a club that happens to be more successful at the moment.

If Gerrard goes to Chelsea and they carry on the way they are Gerrard is only going to be seen to have made a minor improvement to a team that already has Duff, Robben, Makelele and Lampard.

Surely true ambition would be for him to lead Liverpool back into the big time. If that happens Gerrard will need to be responsibvle for it and he would be remembered by Liverpool fans 100 years from today.

Thats ambition.

Unfortunately in the modern game, loyalty isn't enough to win trophies.

Just for the record, I'd like to see Gerrard stay at Liverpool and fight for honours. But as Liverpools chances of winning the title decrease every year, and have slender hopes of winning major trophies like the Champions League, I wonder how long before Gerrard takes the opportunity to play for a more succesful club.

Chelsea have a better chance of winning trophies than Liverpool.

I'd totally agree with you if he played for anyone other than Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool.

Liverpool are one of those 4 clubs who are capable of winning a championship in the next 10 seasons.

I'm just a bit sceptical of whether "ambition" is the right word for joining a team who absolutley walked the league this season and could well do next year too.

If Chelsea win the League and Champions League, then in 10 years time its Lampard, Cech and Terry that people will remember.

If all Gerrard is interested in at the end of his career is medals on his mantelpiece then fair enough join Chelsea I just don't think ambition is the right word.
