Rainrescue 23-05-2008, 03:53 PM Well the holidays are coming aren't they. People want to go away don't they - boarding is an expense to add onto their holiday fare - and so why bother.
Just kick the dog on the streets.
Yesterday - the Council Kennels had almost 50 dogs in - dumped on the streets - no longer any use or wanted. It makes me sick
There are loads of lovely dogs in there - old, young, black, white, brown - long haired, short haired - all types -
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - if you know anyone who is looking for a dog - please go down and see
holidayhutch 23-05-2008, 04:56 PM It is awful, it was the part of my old job that I found the hardest. One month we had over 147 dogs picked up. People said it was cheaper to buy a new dog when they got back off holiday than board the one they had. They also said it as cheaper to get another dog than collect it from the dog pound:rant:
kblade 23-05-2008, 05:04 PM I've just been looking at the site. What does it mean when it says "time up tomorrow" ?
lyndsayx 23-05-2008, 05:07 PM cheaper to just replace it, sounds like they're talking about a washer or something.. people with that kind of attitude to owning a dog shouldn't have one in the first place. makes me sick, if i can't afford to make sure my dog is well cared for i will not have the silly holiday at all. some people :(
kblade 23-05-2008, 05:09 PM I love Staffies. Such a misunderstood breed. I'd take them all if I could
Rainrescue 23-05-2008, 05:10 PM Time up means that they have then done their 7 days legal stay in the kennels and are therefore available to be either rehomed, sent to rescue or destroyed.
The fuller kennels are - the more pressure is on small groups like us to help and on the councils to find space. At the moment - they are in a total nightmare situation - so many dogs - not enough kennels.

Oh I see :(
I'm going to bookmark the site and do what I can to donate, help and spread the word to others
DaFoot 23-05-2008, 05:17 PM I keep seeing all these posts for animal rescue causes and feel bad I can't help atm :(
No space/time for a dog/cat and can't afford to donate. I can't even think of anyone I know that is after a dog to persuade them to look at the shelters first.
kblade 23-05-2008, 06:08 PM I have very little spare cash at the moment too but you can donate things like old newspapers or blankets by the looks of things and I'll be keeping an eye on the site for other info too
IluvStaffys 23-05-2008, 06:10 PM How do these people sleep at night who just throw out their pets like a bag of rubbish, its sad, discusting and i hope karma bites them on the ass, for their wrong doing. My dogs welfare comes before my own. I chose to have them, therefore i know when it comes to holidays its a day trip for me but thats fine cos i love my doggy's
estweyn 23-05-2008, 06:42 PM WORDS FAIL ME!!!!
Lets home some of these do get into rescue, the re homing situation is very slow isnt it
Bless you Rain
*Peaches* 23-05-2008, 06:49 PM I've just looked at all the sites and I must say, I am astounded at the amount of staffy and staffy x on there. So many beautiful dogs, so little room here :(
jenna141230 23-05-2008, 07:00 PM what is the website address please?
teeny 23-05-2008, 07:07 PM very sad, we have some very well cared for pets but there are some people who see animals as replaceable , which they are not. My pets are for life and if i go on my holidays we have a pet sitter in who loves our animals as much as we do!
*Peaches* 23-05-2008, 07:11 PM what is the website address please?

Moonbird 23-05-2008, 08:01 PM Oh dear this thread really is very bad news, I really wish that I could help, if theres anything that I can realistically do you know where I am Rainrescue
pets@home 23-05-2008, 09:41 PM hi rain , i could do 12 till 3. at pound monday if thats any help , sorry cant help with keeping dogs as i have 10 already, well you know my situation .these poor dogs i wish i could take them all , Any rescue people on here that could squeeze 1 or 2 more in ? please or any fosterers that are itching to show some love to a poor orphan dog?
Rainrescue 23-05-2008, 11:38 PM Just got back from setting the 4 in that we have just taken in. My god what a mess
The saddest is Sonny - he is 15 years old and I believe - was a handover - he is doddery on his legs - tho still wanting to go for a walk - he is walking in circles in his kennel because he hasn't a clue what the inside of a prison wall is - well he will no doubt get used to it.
Behind bars and a concrete floor - is very different to a carpet and 4 walls and a tv - but no doubt - he will get used to it cos he has no choice.
I don't expect people to squeeze dogs in - or feel guilty that they can't manage more in - I just want people to spread the word about the pounds - to reduce the massive breeding of staffy's and hopefully get people to at least look if there is anything suitable in there - when they are looking for another dog.
Then if they can do a collection or a sponsored something around work, or local shops which will raise money for us to board some of the dogs - or pay for fuel to transport some - if we can get rescues out of the area to help with some of them. Every penny counts.
thanks for caring
Moonbird 24-05-2008, 10:51 AM Can you get a collecting tin to me? the pet shop at firth park said that they would put it on the counter a long time ago, some posters would help too and any spare tins I will ask around the local shops I am sure that one or two will put them in for you and I will collect the money up when they are full :)
Rainrescue 24-05-2008, 11:09 AM Pets @ Home - thanks for the offer - do you mean volunteering at the council kennels? If so, you need to talk to the people there and see - obviously I have nothing to do with anything there. But I am sure they would appreciate good quality help which you can give.
Moonbird - that would be great. Strix has some of our tins - do you see her at all? If not, I can post one or two out to you with some leaflets. Thank you

No I don't really see Strix, so it would be good if you could post me a couple out :)
katkin 24-05-2008, 01:23 PM Sickening - I don't know how people can live with themselves when they have such a cavalier attitude to pet ownership - and what is it with staffies and staffy-crosses? What will it actually take to stop people letting their dogs breed when they dont have forever caring homes lined up for each and every one of them, fgs.
Strix 14-06-2008, 06:28 PM Did you get the tins Moonbird? or should I drop some off when we come to collect the loaned crate?
