Silly me, I meant Chopper ! Ta
missrabbit 05-04-2005, 08:18 Yeah Chopper is my fav too...If you keep stabbing me like that mate, your gonna kill me.
LordChaverly 05-04-2005, 10:48 The Blockhouse, made in the 1970s, is a scary prison film. Has anyone else seen it?
LordChaverly 05-04-2005, 10:49 I forgot to mention the TV series OZ. Has anyone seen this? It was shown on E4 about two years ago. I would hate to be in that prison!
LordChaverly 05-04-2005, 11:04 And nobody has mentioned Scum. It must be one of the best if not the best British prison films.
Swan_Vesta 05-04-2005, 11:35 Scum
Animal Factory
Cool Hand Luke
Three I know but I'm lazy.
Nobody has mentioned Lock up or Death Warrant yet. :D
An Innocent Man has been mentioned and that is another that I like.
evildrneil 05-04-2005, 16:26 I take it we aren't talking "Lesbians Behind Bars" here then ;)
Kristian 05-04-2005, 16:28 Just been through my collection of prison films, but then realised you guys wouldn't have heard of any of them
In seriousness, The Green Mile is one of my all time favourites!

Got the first series (and best series) on DVD :D
It's r88888888888888888888888 good :wow:
My favs would have to be:
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Bad Boys (Sean Penn)
An Innocent Man (Tom Selleck)
Scum
McVicar
Things like: Chopper and Natural Born Killers I wouldn't class as a prison film. They have scenes of prison in them, but not totally prison related.

There was a film called Caged Heat which had this theme.
I wonder why they make prison porn films, it's not like prison is most peoples idea of a sexy place.
LordChaverly 05-04-2005, 16:33 I think the consensus of opinion here is that Shawshank is the greatest prison film of all time. I agree. In fact this is probably one of the best films of all time in any genre - a masterpiece.

I suppose that depends on who's thinking about it ;)

Probably because of the phenomena of prison sexuality. (http://www.answers.com/prison%20sexuality) Please don't ask how I became aware of this! ;)
LordChaverly 05-04-2005, 16:37 Does anyone remember the Australian TV series Prisoner Cell Block H?
It was so bad it was almost good.

carcrash 05-04-2005, 17:04 Cool Hand Luke gets my vote
Was waiting for McVicar, no mention of American History X yet....

Have only ever seen one scene from this, and it truly was enough to put me off ever watching the whole thing.
The potting shed... need I say more?
Don`t know what the fuss about green Mile is,
Way over rated.
Animal Factory was a disappointment also IMO.
There is an Aussie prison drama with Nick Cage starring which I fancy, not found it yet, cannot even remember the name just now.
Shall google sometime.

Again I wouldn't class that as a prison film (and it's one of my favourites).

Interesting, but I don't think it's as common in prison as people think. I know a couple of people who have been to prison and they never saw/did anything "gay".
Swan_Vesta 06-04-2005, 14:12 It's also known as being "prison bent" - Not exactly embraced openly on the wing but it does go on behind closed doors (from what I understand these cells are refered to as the married quarters).
1.)Shawshank Redemption
2.)Green Mile
3.) Cool Hand Luke(loved the fighting scene)
4.)Sleepers
5.)Prison
Anyone see I Want to Live!? With Susan Hayward? Great '50's prison movie.
