Just looking for a Battery Grip a BG-E1 for my 300D and I can only find a few on eBay 2nd hand'ish. They sell for more than i would expect 2nd hand and are a little over my budget for a 2nd hand item.

Reason i need one, i'm off for a 3 week holiday in August and i'm sure without a doubt i'll run out of battery.

I've noticed the rest of the canon DSLR range , the 'Made in China' bunch do 3rd party grips for every other camera from 350D to the 5D at a cost of £16 - 40

Does anyone know of a 3rd party grip ?

I was in today buying some filters about 3pm, and somebody rang up asking about a battery grip for their Canon. Reminded me of you... and then when you said you'd got one I wondered if it had been you on the phone!

oh no, been and gone for then :hihi:

Anyways cracking bit of kit, i can do vertical shots more easy with the extra buttons.

The filters , what would you use for sunny places ? I was thinking UV or Polorised ?

Eric, has this made a difference to the feel of your camera? Was it third-party?

What sort of strap have you got on your 300D?

Thanks,
D

Well, I got one of the chinese knock offs for the my 5D, and to be honest, it's not saved me that much in comparison to the official Canon one. Alright, this one was £70 as opposed to £140, but it has a pointless LCD display on the back (complete with clock(??) that has to be reset every time you change the batteries) that also wastes batteries as it can't be turned off.

With 6 AA batteries in I can maybe get 300 shots off before I need to change, so I either buy some amazingly high capacity rechargeables or another genuine canon battery (for £50)... and then I'm back up to how much the genuine one should cost.

Ah well. Moral of the story is that it's sometimes better to pay that bit more now, and save more in the long run!

No it's genuine Canon, looked for 3rd party looks like(anyways on ebay) they don't do them.
The camera feels alot heavyer but the weight is more ballanced out. It feels more better in my hands as i have large hands, i can grip the full camera now.
Plus the cool factor, it's made it look a new camera.

The strap is a the default canon EOS i got but i'm looking at getting the palm/hand strap.

This one (http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Grip-Vertical-XT-Batteries/dp/B000G3KLPA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1211737561&sr=8-1) seems highly recommended by people on POTN. I'm thinking about purchasing it... but I'd rather buy from a UK based company!

That type on ebay mate sells around £15 for 3rd party New . I just bought 3 Lithium canon copy batteries for an amazing £9.50 for 3 including delivery from Hong Kong.

I'm a bit reticent about using ebay at the moment, had a couple of things go missing (Royal Mail rather than sellers) and prefer to get things sent by courier... will have a look though thanks!
