Posting on behalf of a friend so please forgive the vague information.

Situation is that she has two dogs she needs to re-home urgently, following a breakdown of her relationship (dogs were not hers but she has been left with them).

Both dogs have been trained for rabbit hunting (please don't comment as this is not the point of this post) and are currently kept outside. Due to medical reasons, the dogs cannot be walked regularly and it is unfair for them to carry on with their current way of life.

One is a whippet cross (black and white and bought for £250) and the other I believe is a terrier. Both are less than two years old and both are used to being around children (specifically a 5yr old girl).

At this stage (whilst waiting for further information), we are looking to get as much advice as possible as how to go about re-homing these lovely dogs.

Thanks for any suggestions.

just to clarify - is it the persons medical condition that means they can't be walked or the dogs problem? taking it that they are just two years old it is more likely a human problem, you could try posting the details on rain rescue - the website gets lots of hits and there is a page on there for private re-homings good luck

You are correct to assume it's the person with the medical problem that means she is unable to walk the dogs.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know anything about dogstrust?

www.dogstrust.org.uk

Just been browsing the site - looks like a possibility.

The Dogs Trust may take the dogs - its always worth asking them. It will probably depend on which branch - the nearest to sheffield would probably be the Leeds one -

There are some places which would help with the whippet - and then maybe somewhere else for the terrier.

If you can get pics and a decent write up - we would put them up on the site for rehoming by the owner.

Please ask your friend to be careful who takes the dogs, working dogs are not always well cared for.
See if Lurcher link (http://www.lurcher.org/llink/forum/index.php), Greyhound gap (http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/) or Tia greyhound & lurcher rescue (http://www.tiagreyhounds.org.uk/) can help, these are all organisations that specialise in rehoming sight hounds, they might help with the terrier you can but ask... try them they are very good.
Good luck with the dogs I hope they find the good safe home that they need.
