About a year ago I asked if anyone on here could help me with a new laptop I’d purchased which didn’t have MS word on it etc and I couldn’t afford the software. Got lots of very helpful replies, many of them suggesting I download Open Office. This has worked very well so thanks very much!!

I do now, however, have the Microsoft Office package installed on my laptop (and yes it’s legitimate before you ask!) but it seems the default for opening documents is using Open Office. How do I change it??

If I open MS Word and then open a document all good. But if I go though the file directory system or try to open email attachments Open Office kicks in.

I’m on Vista, by they way – not sure if this makes a difference.

Right click a word file, choose "Open With" - click on "Choose Default Program" - select MS Word in there, and make sure you tick the box below "Always use selected program to open this kind of file"
